Peperomia caperata rosso is a delicate plant that does not tolerate drought conditions. To care for it, it is best to water from below and allow the plant to soak up all the water it needs. The plant prefers a warm place with medium to bright indirect light, plant it in loose, well-drained soil that holds moisture, and water when about half its soil has dried out.
Caring for Peperomia Rosso involves providing the right amounts of light, water, humidity, and fertilizer. Watering the plant from the top or bottom is crucial as the roots like to stay evenly moist. It is not like a fern, so you don’t need to keep it heavily watered. However, it also dislikes being waterlogged, so be careful not to overwater.
When potting or repotting your Peperomia Rosso, provide a thorough, deep watering from below, allowing the plant to soak up the needed water. Overwatering can cause leaves to droop and wilt, and roots to rot. Peperomia Rosso needs 0.8 cups of water every 9 days when it doesn’t get direct sunlight and is potted in a 5.0″ pot. To increase humidity, you can mist the plant regularly, use a pebble tray with water, or place a humidifier nearby.
Fertilization should be done with a diluted, balanced fertilizer. Succulents still like water, but they should never sit in soggy soil. Check the soil for dampness once a week and add about a half cup of water if dry. As a general rule, wait to water until the leaves are soft, sometimes after the soil is totally dry.
In summary, Peperomia caperata rosso requires proper care and care to ensure its growth and health. Proper watering, humidity, and fertilization are essential for the plant’s growth and health.

I recently brought one a week and a half ago. And I totally forgot it in the car. I just found it yesterday as I was cleaning out my car. And it was still alive wilted, but stiill alive. Mind you I live in the valley in California and the weather here is been 90-100 degrees. Little buddy pulled through 🙌🏽
Very informative! I just picked up one and I hope I don’t kill it. I have a ton of indirect light and we like to keep the house on the cooler side of 66-68. My plan is drilling a pot that doesn’t have a drainage hole. With the soil challenge I guess I can’t put it in a larger clay pot. Mine is exactly the same size as yours but it’s in the original plastic pot.
Hey there! I’ve had a peperomia for 2 months now, and it was fine up until a week ago, when it went droopy all of a sudden (watering it didn’t help). I figured it was because it was growing too big for its pot, so I decided to transplant it into a bigger one. Even though I tried to be super careful with the roots, I managed to rip most of them while transplanting it. Do you have any suggestions on what I should/could do to make sure it won’t die? Thank you! And I loved your article, it was very informative 😀
so you don’t have to worry much since your Medusa is still a baby. and to me you kind of look like a goddess (Demeter 😍) . . . I’ll not leaf you alone!!!! especially now, with the weather changing, I need you more than ever. I just propagated a heart-leaf-philodendron and it is done now! it is my second houseplant and it is going very well with Coraline(the ming aralia), and I hope I can continue the good care for both of them. thanks for your articles you are the best! 🌸
Hi! I have managed to keep my Rosso alive for a couple of years now, I think I may have given it too much sun recently and a ton of the bottom leaves turned really light and I had to pick a lot off. Now it looks very “leggy”. Would you suggest potting them deeper into the soil so it looks nice again or do you think the bottom leaves will come back? Thanks!
Hi! I have been struggling (truly) with my peperomia. She just was never happy with anything lol. I’ve noticed the soil staying wet for far too long, even with only bottom watering and it is dropping leaves like crazy. I have some coco coir I was thinking to add to the soil to help with possible root rot. Is this a good idea? Or will I end up making her worse? All of the leaves have been dropping 🙁
Thank you for the article 🙂 I just bought this one and “red Luna” a week ago and found out that rosso barely has any roots on it😑 idk who’s fault it is, but it was falling out of the pot. Still trying to figure out what is wrong, but I guess I bought a baby plant and the shop didn’t want to wait long enough for it to have proper roots. Also the stems break sooooo easy, it is so fragile. If anyone knows what and why does it look like that I would be extremely happy to get your advices ❤️
Great article! I’ve had one for a few months. It has been doing well until now. We had a heat wave here in CA. I had several of the flowers shoot out and I’m finding several leaves dying off (mushy stems) I’m hoping that removing the dead leaves and moving it a little further away from the window will help. Even though it’s indirect light I’ve noticed the right side is fading.
I have a peperomia rosso for 3 months, it lost its flowers and got yellow leaves in my watch 😅 I took it out of the pot to see the roots, and I was surprised they are really really small. Is this normal? Since they were so small, I put it in a jar with only water to see if the roots grow a bit more. Was this a mistake?!?!
Not sure what I’m doing wrong but I haven’t had any luck with propagating my Ripple Leaf Peperomia. I tried the leaf-in-wet-soil technique with wrap on top and spraying the soil continuously. I don’t know if it was getting enough air that way as the soil after the initial watering, never seemed to get dry at all. It was very moist for 3 weeks straight. I left it on my windowsill with plenty of light. The perlite in my soil mix turned fluorescent green. I also have some cuttings that have been in my propagation station now for 3 weeks and absolutely no root growth whatsoever.
Thanks for the tips….I just bought two peperomias tomoorow and propegated the leaves that fell off….I put the whole leaf in soil and that is why it prob takes even longer….also put a chunck in water so I should try your meathod! Super excited thanks…I git a nice big picallo banda and a metalica! Yeah!
