📹 ENDER LILIES Explained: How Purification Works
Purification plays a big role in Ender Lilies with regards to gameplay, narrative, and theme, but…what exactly does it mean?
There’s actually a phase on a Blighted Lord boss fight where the blight lord unable to spawn its minions or even attack itself on the second phase. This is where Fretia had a complete control over blight lord and also begs for Lily to end the nightmare she carrying, This is where I hesitate then I nonstop cried.
There’s also another case of special Blighted who are strangely passive compared to others, the green-cloaked hamlet youths. Maybe they aren’t all youths specifically, but found in large numbers around the early areas, and typically in later areas around places of importance like the Faden-locked doors protecting the 7 tablet parts, there are variants of the basic leaping enemy with a green robe that are completely passive, yet they’ll actually turn to look at you if you get close to them. The way they are hunched over, moving up and down slightly, and are almost always positioned facing towards something with a strong connection to the Priestesses, like a church altar or idol of worship, it makes them appear as though they are praying. If so, they’d be another example of cases where the blight failed to take over it’s host, as the person’s faith and religious fervor was so powerful that they could bring the blight to a stalemate like furious/stagnant pickup Blighted.
(Late but I love Ender Lilies and wait for Magnolia with bated breath) So I realize the game isn’t into “science” for how the Blight or White Priestess’ work, but I can’t help but think about them both evolving. Like maybe the Blight wasn’t always painful? We see WP can get pretty strong when they absorb enough Blight, just look at Lily by end game, her spirits are tearing apart monsters and Knights, and we know the Ancients seem pretty violent. So maybe the Blight developed it’s whole pain thing to counter them, in turn they learned to absorb greater amounts and pass it among members, and in turn Blight got MORE painful and maybe even more violent. In the end if that was true, and the explanation isn’t just ‘magic appeared’, then I suppose the WP won the evolutionary arms race. If 1 child can ‘devour’ a small country on her own then a dozen or two adults could probably eradicate all of the Blight with some effort. But society never let them.
Huh. I never noticed the 8 graves at the end. However, they also don’t seem to “buried” graves as they seem very close together (im not an expert on this so correct me if I am wrong). It could instead be the 8 main spirits that was part of Lily’s journey (Umbral Knight, Gerrod, Silva, Julius, Ulv, Eleine, Hoenir, Faden). My reason behind this is that their bodies were too grotesque and large to be buried but Lily still wanted to pay respect to the knights that she met. Yet, I also think it is as you said. They may belong to the other 8 Lilies. My reason to support this is that the symbol of the grave looks similar to the sigil/tattoo/sign on Lily’s forehead at the beginning of the game.
i dont think the bodies of blighted enemies you purify turn into dust, as they still remain there for the entire game, even the very first one. i think its more likely that because the blight obviously has magic properties, it somehow turns the bodies into stone as it is purified. they look much more like statues than frail dust effigees. if they were made from dust, a single breeze would desintegrate them, but they remain there indefinely
I just realised that maybe the reason the Umbral Knight is different from other blighted spirits may be that if he was blighted intentionally and then purified, he’s not been given the “quietus” and his soul wasn’t in debt to Fretia. In other words, he wasn’t bound to her the way playable spirits are bound to Lily.
