To fix and revive drooping hydrangea plants, apply mulch three to five inches deep in spring, enrich the soil with organic matter, grow hydrangea in dappled light, mist the leaves and flowers, deeply water hydrangeas three times a week, and apply a low-release nitrogen fertilizer.
Hydrophants are beautiful flowers that provide elegance and warmth to your home. However, they tend to wilt quickly when cut and placed in a vase. To perk up wilted blooms, completely submerge them in water and let them sit for a few hours. The combination of too much sun and not enough water is a common cause of hydrangea droop, making it a great place to start when your plants are feeling droopy.
To treat hydrangea droop, apply a fungicide, avoid overhead watering, and water them in the morning so leaves dry out during the day and aren’t sitting wet. Over-fertilization can lead to droopy hydrangeas when there is an excess of nitrogen production in the soil. Excess nitrogen can cause quick growth spurts during which hydrangea stems can’t grow quick enough.
To revive wilted hydrangeas, trim an inch off the ends of the stems and submerge them in a bucket, bowl, or sink filled with cool water. If trying to revive multiple stems at once, weigh them down in the water with a lightweight plate so they stay completely submerged. Trimming the stems at an angle using a sharp knife and adding a small slit in the stem helps it suck up more water.
To bring back wilting hydrangea blooms, soak them in warmish water for 30 to 40 minutes, dump old water from the vase, wash it, and refill with fresh water. Once the water boils, pour the water into the pot and allow it to dry completely.
