Mr. Houseplant provides a step-by-step guide on how to prepare the planting medium for your succulent seeds. To water your plants, gather a seed tray or small pots, a soil mix, and perlite or pumice. Succulent seeds need light to germinate and constant access to water. The best way to water them is by flooding the container from below, filling it with a couple of inches of water and placing the pot in the water so that the drainage holes are submerged. Leave the plant in the water for at least 30 minutes, or until the soil is well-draining.
For indoor succulents, use a watering can with a small spout or squeeze if you don’t have access to one. To keep the soil moist without washing the seeds out, use a spray bottle or another option. The best way to water succulents is with the “soak and dry” method, which involves soaking the soil completely and letting it dry out completely before watering again.
The optimal way to water your succulents is to check the soil regularly to see if the soil is dry. Water about once a week in summer and once a month in winter. Water thoroughly to soak the plants, rather than giving them little splashes of water here and there. Depending on the pot size, water your succulents about every 2 weeks, or every 3-4 weeks for larger plants. It’s always best to water your succulents once weekly or whenever the soil completely dries. When watering, ensure to thoroughly soak the plants.

I just managed to get some of my hand pollinated seeds to germinate! When I took a closer look with my jewelers loupe I saw some kind of larva in the soil eating my poor baby seedlings! How can I prevent that for the next batch? I used a commercial succulent soil and added grit and a layer of sand on top. I’m assuming the larva was already in the soil 😫
Liz thank you so much for doing this article series. I am patiently awaiting my first set of seeds that I just ordered the other day I ordered two different kinds and I am not going to tell you which two plant Seeds I ordered because I am crazy for ordering these two you’re gonna tell me they’re very hard to grow and I don’t want to discourage myself right from the beginning. If they grow they grow if not I will go back and start with something easier. But these articles are priceless to me right now. I’m not gonna watch it on article I’m going to watch all of them in succession at once so I can take notes and at a time where I can pay closer attention. But I just wanted to say thank you❤️
