- Identify the seed pods from the plant.
- Transplant the seedlings into individual 4-inch nursery pots filled with potting soil.
- If you have established Calla Lily plants in your garden, collect seeds from mature flowers. Wait for the flowers to produce seed pods after they die back.
- Allow the flower to die back and the seed pod to dry out. Once the pod is dry, it will open and release the seeds.
- Hold a bowl under the seed pods to collect the seeds.
- If you don’t have an existing calla lily plant, purchase seed pods from reputable catalogs, nurseries, or other growers.
- Wait for the stem just under the seed pod to turn yellow or tan. The seed kernels should be slightly squishy.
- Pop the seeds out of the kernels, plant 1/2″ deep in potting soil, keep moist, and wait. Some germinate quickly, while others may take many weeks.
It is not possible to harvest viable seeds from green calla lily pods. Seeds can be purchased from catalogs, garden centers, or mature seedpods on existing plants.
To harvest the seeds, gently squish out the cone and place the pods on a paper plate. Gently squeeze each kernel to remove the tiny, tuberous seeds, which are roughly 2 mm in length.
