I’ve flown a private jet before from the right seat since I had a connection give me some training on the job in one. I didn’t want to tell him, but I just low key felt a little disgusted by the whole industry and shifted to wanting to move boxes or go to the airlines. The only exception would be if I flew important medical supplies or something similar. See the airlines in general are *relatively* CO2 efficient, because CO2 efficiency means fuel efficiency, and fuel efficiency saves money and makes you look good to congress when they want to fuck your shit up. Meanwhile Rich Folks don’t really care about spending the extra pretty penny to get there 10 minutes faster, so most of the time you’re jamming that throttle as fast as it will go without the wings ripping off. Most of the time they don’t want to pay for the pilots to go out with them so they’ll send the plane back empty once they are done. Most of the flights we did were just. “Let’s go take this family on a luxury vacation in Florida”. Or “lets go take this family 100 miles for their daughter’s boyfriend’s football game”. Meanwhile you’re basically a butler who can fly a plane. You have to make sure Mr. And Mrs. OCD don’t see a spec of dust on their countertop or a hair on the floor. Then they hop onboard and you are a butler racing to get the plane running so you are giving that “top notch service”. IDK there’s good service and then there’s whatever the fuck that was. I’ve also heard horror stories of certain clients not understanding safety and pushing their pilots to do dangerous things.
Most of her emissions are probably indirect, from merch. As a fan, I’ve seen the quality decrease and the volume of products on her website skyrocket. And shipping and delivering hundreds of thousands of low quality hoodies and tshirts is definitely killing the environment (and I doubt the workers are having a great time). Curious to see this combined with locations of shows. One could argue that the CO2 emission for a show is to be divided over de crowd, whilst private destinations are not. Yes, that’s a lot of pollution… I also could see using the private jet if she’s going to perform somewhere with her crew, because she has so many fans. It’d be extremely difficult for her to fly on other regular flights, it’d cause more delays to regular people flying, more security needed at the airport and on the plane. A lot of people would be complaining about this inconvenience to them too. Hopefully the private jet has a lot of her crew on board too. She does have a lot of people that are involved in her performances.
