Can African Daisies Be Grown From Cuttings?

African daisies, also known as Cape daisies, are hybrids that can be propagated from stem cuttings or seeds. They thrive in both the ground and containers and bloom in late spring to early summer and again in late summer to early fall. However, they stop blooming during hot spells.

Propagation of African daisies from stem cuttings is a quick and easy method that yields fast results. Take 3-4 inch cuttings from healthy plants, remove the lower leaves, and plant them in moist potting soil. This method can offer unique benefits, such as creating a clone of an existing plant. In zones 8 and above, African daisies bloom all year long and can be propagated from seeds as well.

To grow new African daisies from existing plants, cut off a two-inch portion (5 cm) of a non-flowering stem and plant the stem in a seed tray filled with potting soil. To propagate African daisies from cuttings, choose healthy stems that are green, not woody, and have several leaf nodes.

Osteospermum, a type of African daisy, can flower almost year-round and cope well in heat. To propagate Osteospermum from cuttings, take your cuttings using secateurs or a sharp implement, prepare your module tray, and plant the cuttings in compost.

There are three primary methods for propagating African daisies: saving and sowing seeds, rooting stem cuttings, or dividing the adult plant into new divisions. By following these steps, you can easily propagate African daisies and overwinter the plant outside its hardiness zones.
