Why did Veronica leave House of Flowers?
In August 2018, actress Virginia Castro announced her decision to not reprise her role in the Netflix show “Las de la Mora” due to her character’s journey being over. Caro confirmed that she would no longer appear in the show, which would focus on the de la Mora children if another season was produced. Castro revealed that her decision to leave was friendly and mutual between all parties, but Caro and Netflix had originally asked to renew her contract for the second season to appear in only the first few episodes and then provide voice-overs. Castro did not agree, saying she has always been all or nothing.
In 2020, Castro said she had been finalizing her appearances in the second season with Netflix but Caro changed his mind on what he wanted, resulting in her being removed from the show. In August 2019, Castro confirmed that her likeness was used in the upcoming season, but she hadn’t been paid for the appearances because she had not done any additional work for it.
In the second season, without Castro as the lead, fan favorite Paulina became the central character, and Rodrigo Munizaga speculated that Castro, without a continuing contract, was even less enthused to return after being “overshadowed” by Suárez in season one. Caro explained that the writing and production of the second season did not change much despite Castro’s absence, as they knew from the beginning that there was a possibility she would not return.
Why does Paulina speak so slowly in House of Flowers?
Paulina, a character in the popular TV show Clarín, has been linked to her slow speech due to her regular use of the anti-anxiety medication Tafil. This slow speech is a side effect of the drug, but it is also creatively coincidental as they were conceived separately during the show’s development. Paulina’s voice demarcates the fresa stereotype, which is not unusual in upper-class neighborhoods like Las Lomas, suggesting it could be used as part of the show’s socioeconomic commentary.
The style of diction establishes her as a “daddy’s girl” and a character who can know everyone’s secrets. Paulina’s voice became the focus of the show’s marketing for season two, with the first videos released in August 2019. The first videos featured Paulina leaving a threatening voicemail for Diego, followed by a voice note in the siblings’ WhatsApp chat about their mother’s funeral. Another marketing video focused on Paulina speaking, making an ASMR video recap of the show.

This scene killed me. Me and my sisters basically raised our younger siblings. My dad was an addict and my mom was emotionally unavailable and would shut herself away in a room all day. I’ll never forget the time my mom came home at 5 in the morning after being out with some guy, and I was still awake waiting for her because she was supposed to be coming home from work and she wouldn’t answer her phone. I went off on her, and long story short, she said she was sorry for the kids, but she didn’t have enough energy to be emotionally available for me. She said I’m sorry if your depressed and have panic attacks, but I don’t have time for it. When I said I was her child too, she told me I wasn’t, and said I was an adult. So yeah, this scene was too real.
This moment throughout the entire show I feel really sets the tone and is a big milestone in season one. Especially at the end of the season it is such a crucial moment that sets the standard for season two. Fiona fighting for the children shows how much she sees them as her own and how valuable they are to her. It highlights what true love is in family and how important the people you love really mean to you. I feel that Fiona did the right thing fighting for the curiosity of her family over her mother since she was the one that raised them all those years since Fiona was barely a teenager.
I really like the fact that Fiona didn’t gave a rat’s ass that Monica is back and all that. Fiona stood her ground to the fact that if there was any sign of acceptance from her siblings to Monica, she would just leave, making her siblings realize that without Fiona… none of their successes were happening, if Fiona didn’t take care of them, some of them would literally be dead from sickness, Fiona was 9. No child at 9 should grow up with that but hey, who said that having parents that acted like teens would be a good idea to have kids that many and made a family that’s easily fall apart.
It’s interesting how they say Fiona became the mom of the house when she was 9, but not all of the siblings were born yet then. Lip would be around 3 at that time and Ian would be 2, but Debbie, Carl, and Liam were definitely not born yet. So basically in between that time until 2011 when the show aired, Frank and Monica reunited enough times to have three more kids lol wtf. In season 1 they made it seem like Monica had been gone for years with nobody hearing from her.
I think one of my favorite parts of this scene, aside from Emmy’s acting, is Liam yelling “no, I don’t know” in the background. It was probably added in later or he was just repeating what he heard, but I always think of it as him repeating what Fiona said because she’s the only mother he’s ever known. Everyone around him is screaming, a stranger is holding him, and the only thing he can focus on is Fiona’s voice.
After perusal this scene it makes me rethink of how much my older brother is keeping it together for me and my younger brother. My parents are both narcissists and only have time to focus on one child and themselves…they are physically here but not emotionally here. Lip and Ian throughout this scene by their faces are the ones me and my younger brother have made sure in how much we resent our parents, Fiona throughout the whole scene hit me hard in how she made her stance….I almost cried when she said “You were my mother too”, I don’t see my parents as I used too but I know that pain of being robbed of so much from what you could have had. It also made me think how strong older siblings like my brother have to be for the younger siblings when it comes to these kind of things. If you don’t have good parents you at least gotta have siblings to look up too, this show really shows what kind of family connections are still so important in dysfunctional families
Wow! I was considering of perusal this show lately. I figure I would watch some of the top scenes and this one hit me hard. I don’t blame Fiona for walking out. I would have done the same thing if I was in her shoes. Monica was a terrible freaking person just by perusal this scene and the way Fiona spoke to her said it all. Thanks for uploading. ❤️❤️
I realize at 30 i still haven’t healed from the trauma of my own mother walking out on my siblings and i when we were kids, coz this scene brings me to tears and cuts deep.. especially now since she’s trying to come back into my life once again through fb messages. Not the first time she did, she tried once when i was around 18 but that lasted a week or two tops.
Some scenes in shameless with Monica remind me of my mother, because she also has bipolar. Of course just without the drugs and stuff, but she still did some terrible things, and where Monica ask Carl and Debbie if she can be their mother again hit me hard. It reminded me of my mom telling me a few days ago that she was sorry if she ever hurt me, because she left me with my dad and siblings when I was 11. She said she was sorry that she didn’t see me turn into a young lady, she lives around 6 hours away from me and she had a baby a while ago, named Wyatt, my baby brother. I have a better relationship with my mom now, but it’s still difficult to talk to her sometimes. I think I might also have BPD but I’m not sure bc I haven’t gotten diagnosed yet. Ty for listening kind person ❤
A parent leaving their child to start a new family has to be the most L shit they could do. My cousin’s parents divorced when she was a child and her father, my uncle, doesn’t talk to her and completely cut ties with her almost and she’s almost 20 now. He has two kids with his new wife and my fathers side we all just act normal. She’s my best friend and it’s never too late to rebuild a relationship with your kids you just choose not to because it’s easier to start over.
Fiona looks at Monica at 2:32 while she apologizes to Carl and Debbie like she envys it, instead of Monica apologizing to Fiona she goes to them and you can see the hurt in her eyes. Maybe Fiona walked out not because Monica wanted to come back into their lives but because Fiona knew she wouldn’t get to come back to hers because her childhood was over and yet Monica didn’t even apoligise or take responsibility for ruining it. She wasn’t jealous but exepts that her Mom was and will never be there for her.
I was furious the first time I saw this because I think Fiona was right. You can’t just abandon your kids and come back one day just because you want to start a family with your girlfriend. Liam’s a baby, he doesn’t know what’s going on for all he thinks Fiona is his mother. And Roberta, she should just shut her mouth. I swear I was hoping a fight would happen. What really hurts though is how Fiona says “You were my mother, too.” And Monica just dismissing it like “I was.” With no emotion or regret or anything. Like she doesn’t even care.
“You don’t get to abandon your kids and then show up one day to take your pick of the litter. Shut up, Frank. This isn’t about you. This is about you. This is about what you didn’t do. It’s about what I did. And you know what? I did a fucking great job. Debbie is class president. She’s on the debate team. Going to Nationals. And Lip. He’s top of his class. He set the curve. Ian was promoted in ROTC, and he tested out of English. And Carl made something blow up for his science fair. And you know what? They did it all, no thanks to you, because you weren’t here. He doesn’t even know who you are! You’re my mother, too! (Beat) You know what? You’re right. You are their mother. And you’re here now. So I’m done. I’m done with the schools and the bills and the clinics. I’m done. They’re all yours now, Mom. Good luck.
I just started perusal the show yesterday and I’ve been seeing this scene everywhere on tiktok but a few seconds in I always refused to continue perusal that scene. It hits so freaking hard perusal it in the context of the show and I’m glad I didn’t watch it before. Love and hate this scene at the same time
FIONA He doesn’t even know who you are MONICA I’m his mother FIONA you were my mother too LIAM in the background I DON’T I DON’T KNOW!! Why is no one talking or remembering a thing about how the fact Liam agreed to what Fiona said at the age that he was in this scene as if he understood exactly what Fiona & Monica were on about I will never know!! 🥺😩😔😳
This hurts. Fiona was more a mother to her siblings than their own mother was and yet the nerve of that woman, coming into their home taking her pick of the litter. Coming in like she owns the place when she hasn’t had to pay a goddamn bill in god knows how long. She should be kissing the ground Fiona walks on for stepping up when she couldn’t. She should be respecting Fiona and honoring her. Not coming in shitting all over the place. God she makes me sick.
Not many actually understand this scene, it always fucks me up when people go on about “family family family” and when you try to explain, the cliche surely comes : ” you need to forgive and forget”, you guys are lucky and in need of perspective. If you’re one of these you really have no idea of what you are talking about and most likely never will, which is ok, but dont try to be “nice” just to stroke your sad ego.
Fiona is my favorite character. She isn’t selfish like her mom, Fiona was supposed to be having fun as a kid but she took care of all the kids and Frank because Monica wasn’t there. I remember when she and Debbi got into a argument when Debbie got pregnant. Fiona didn’t have to take care of them, if she wanted to go off and leave her family she would’ve but she didn’t.
had a mom just like that ran off wanted to get hi and party everyday while I took care of my Lil sister and paid bills for my dad and yes many times he let her come back for “love” and the “kids” she came back more abusive and ran off sooner each time haven’t seen her but once for grandpa’s funeral in 12 years and I can tell you the pain is always there but the love dies fast. never was a mom never will be a mom deuces
Fiona is right and I agreed with her. It made me cry cause a mother need take care of kids first and don’t start new one, children need a mother to be there for them don’t just run away and start a new one that stupid!. But Fiona is everything take care of her brother and sister to keep the family together and hold, Monica is bipolar and they forget thing also she is unstable and get to get help but in my opinion from all of this. They can’t Liam away from them at all
Wow that’s was so hard, 😞 I remember I had to look after yourself and my sisters when I was in grade 1 made sure get them to school and made sure we eat every day. For at most one day while Mom worked 2 jobs out of town. Failed too, then we were part of the scope 60 project, none of me or my sisters never get.
You don’t get to abandon your kids and then show up one day to take your pick of the litter. Good luck.
I didn’t like Roberta in this scene. She’s talking to them like they’re one of those families that adopted Liam from Africa just to brag about the fact they adopted a kid from Africa . The show lets you know full well they were all unplanned with various narcotics In both parents systems. He’ll Monica admitted she cheated on Frank when she had Liam. The show isn’t afraid of double standards, so that point isn’t lost.
Theres a story about a mom who had 4 kids and pregnant with a 5th (she had more than the 4 kids and the soon to be baby.) the mom put a sign in the front yard and made her kids sit on the porch she was pregnant and faced away from the camera and the sign said 4 kids for sale enquire within. 1 kid got adopted and lived on a farm where the adopted parents chained that kid up and left the kid in the barn and 1 kid was raised in a strict Catholic home. 2 kids were bought for 2$ which the mom used to buy a bingo card. She sold the house and meet another guy and had 4 more kids with that guy (4 girls) and she kept all 4 of those girls but didn’t care about the other 5 kids she had. And her four girls didn’t care to meet the other kids. Just read the story its pretty interesting.
I found that appreciate is such an ugli word. It has a nice meaning in itself but is always used when they don’t really appreciate your efforts it is used as an excuse as a way of justify their actions. It just sounds ugly and insincere to me now and I don’t think I will be able to hear it in any different way ever again
You can either have everyone or none of them, but her children are better of without her. I can’t believe she an unstable parent returns because her girlfriend think she is the only capable of raising her child because he is black. So a black person is better to raise a black child then someone that has experience with children!?
Being black doesn’t make you a better parent to a black child! That is an ignorant way of thinking and the mixed race adoptions prove it. There are white families with black children and black families with white children the love and care that these people have in their hearts for their adopted children is what matters not the color of their skin.
never liked monica for a minute, hey, at least Frank I understood, he did a couple of things for his kids… even what happened in their thanksgiving I swear that was all a show!! she just wanted to ruin the moment, make it about her… dont care that she was ” bipolar”, listen, the actress seems like the sweetest woman, but I dont believe monica for a minute
