Which Way Does The Cabin Filter’S Air Flow?

This video explains the air flow direction of cabin air filters, which are often printed on them with an arrow. To change the airflow direction of your cabin air filter, ensure that the arrow (or “UP” marking) is pointing toward the car’s interior during installation. The cabin air filter helps remove harmful pollutants, including pollen and dust, from the air you breathe within the car. It is usually located behind the glovebox or at the base of the vehicle.

Air flow in cabin air filters is top to bottom, with the arrow pointing towards the inside of the car. Aftermarket filters have an arrow indicating air flow, usually down, so the arrow should point down when that is true. The airflow is towards the front of a car, and the filter manufacturer includes instructions that say the same thing. Cabin air enters from the top and goes down.

Air flow is usually down on filters due to gravity, with particles on top staying on the filter and particles on the bottom falling off. Replacing your cabin air filter only takes a few minutes and helps protect your lungs by keeping the air inside your vehicle clean.
