Ways To Mimic A Greenhouse?

Greenhouse orientation is crucial for maximizing sunlight and plant growth. There are three main schools of thought regarding greenhouse orientation: 1) capture the morning sun, 2) focus the winter sun, and 3) orient plant growth instead of the building. To optimize your greenhouse, consider the location, which should receive adequate sunlight, have access to electricity and water, and be protected from strong winds and pests.

The most optimal orientation for a greenhouse is for one of its longest walls facing south or within 20 degrees of south. Position the greenhouse with the longest side facing true south to maximize sunlight exposure throughout the day. Leave at least 25 feet of clearance around the greenhouse.

When choosing a location for your greenhouse, consider specific environmental factors and structural needs. The goal is a greenhouse environment that maximizes light and plant growth. To rotate crops in a greenhouse, remove the substrate, such as coconut or mineral wool slabs, from the greenhouse. This helps prevent a build-up of soil-borne pests and diseases.

Crop rotation involves varying the types of crops grown in a specific plot of land each year to prevent a build-up of soil-borne pests. A step-by-step guide to crop rotation in a greenhouse includes planting the crop outside the greenhouse in-ground, installing another greenhouse for crop rotation, and using different insecticides of different MOA in sequence to avoid constant exposure to a single chemical.

In summary, greenhouse orientation is essential for optimal plant growth and protection from pests and diseases. Proper positioning and rotation can help ensure a healthy and productive greenhouse environment.

  • My back yard faces SSW and my garden runs along that same orientation from left to right along the north side of my neighbors fence. It doesn’t get sun on till about 10 o’clock or so but could I build a greenhouse tall enough over top of it that it could capture that early morning sunlight and bring the heat of it down?
