Tiger Lilies: How To Grow Them From Seed Pods?

To grow tiger lilies, moisten the soil slightly and place seeds on the soil surface, spacing them about an inch apart. Sprinkle a thin layer of soil or vermiculite over the seeds, ensuring they are lightly covered. Lightly press down the soil to improve seed-to-soil contact. Tiger lilies are perennial bulbs with orange blooms and black spots. They can be propagated by snapping off and planting a few of the bulbils.

Collect seeds from tiger lilies and wait for the seed pods to turn brown and dry before harvesting. Store the seeds in a cool, dry place until ready to plant. The best time for propagation is spring or early fall, as this aligns with the plant’s robustness. Seed sleuthing involves collecting and harvesting seeds for propagation.

Tiger lilies are known for their robustness, but timing is key for propagation success. Plant in fall or early spring when the ground is just thawing, giving the bulbs the best shot at settling in. Remove the bulbils from the leaf axils when they come away easily and gently brush them off the plant.

Keep young lilies in their seed pot until they are a good size (say two years). Pot them in a similar compost with a slow-release fertiliser or plant out. Cover the seed with one inch of soil and a very light mulch of barkdust or peat, and water well throughout the growing season.
