Study Article On How Green Detergents Impact Plant Growth?

This study investigates the impact of detergents on plant growth and development in Chickpea plants. High detergent concentrations are harmful to plants and soil due to their alteration of physical and chemical properties. Dehydrogenase activity decreases with increasing detergent concentration, leading to germination failure. The study also investigates the effects of organic pollutants (detergents) on soil pH, nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium levels after being introduced.

Detergents have been studied extensively for their effects on plant growth, soil characteristics, and seed germination, flowering, and fruiting. A lower concentration of detergent (0.01) enhanced the growth and development of green gram plants better than the control. However, higher concentrations of detergent (0.02 and above) hindered plant growth. Surfactants have been found to inhibit enzyme activity and plant growth, altering the physical properties of soil.

Detergents possess degradation potential that negatively impacts plant growth. Household detergents are a source of water pollutants that adversely affect crops, reducing plant growth and having negative effects on plant health and weight. Some detergents, when used in sufficient concentrations, can be harmful to plant life. The highest concentration of detergent solution is expected to show the fastest decline in health and weight.

The results from this study showed that both Surf and Tide caused decreased growth in both the shoot and root of the plant. Therefore, it is crucial to consider the potential negative effects of detergents on plant growth and development.
