Horace Slughorn, a pure-blood wizard and Potions Master, was a beloved figure at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft. He was known for his comfort, the company of famous and powerful individuals, and his ability to influence them. However, he never wanted to occupy the throne. Slughorn returned to Hogwarts at Dumbledore’s request, where he resumed his passion for potion-making.
During Harry’s sixth year at Hogwarts, Dumbledore and Harry convinced Horace to return from retirement to teach Potions. Under Minerva McGonagall’s authority, it is likely that Professor Slughorn stayed as Potions Master and Head of Slytherin House at Hogwarts. Slughorn’s professional relationships with fellow professors often worked to mutual benefit, often working with fellow instructors to maximize their benefits.
In the movie HP 6, Horace Slughorn steals the Venomous Tentacula plant leaves from the Hogwarts greenhouses. In the Half-Blood Prince, Professor Severus Snape becomes the Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher. However, while Slughorn appeared social and outgoing, he was hiding a dark secret about his involvement in Voldemort’s rise to power.
In the Chamber of Secrets, Horace Slughorn takes the leaves from the outside of the greenhouses and reveals his involvement in Voldemort’s rise to power. This revelation highlights the complex relationship between Horace, Professor McGonagall, and the Slug Club, as well as the potential dangers of collecting illegal substances and attempting to evade detection.

Is Slytherin evil or good?

Regulus Black, involved with the Death Eaters, also plays an important role in the downfall of Voldemort by attempting to destroy a Horcrux.
These characters share extreme views but also have traits other than just being evil. They are flawed, but they chose to stand against Voldemort despite initially choosing to side with him. They choose to be more than evil in their actions.
Why was Ron foaming at the mouth?
In this summary, the story revolves around the adventures of Harry Potter and the Death Eaters, who crash through shop front windows and cause London’s Millennium Bridge to collapse. Dumbledore, a character with a severely blackened hand, is involved in a violent struggle with Professor Slughorn’s hideout. Draco Malfoy kicks Harry in the head, leaving him with a badly deformed and bleeding nose. A fellow student offers to use magic to repair his nose, and Harry recovers from her injuries.
The Death Eaters attack the Weasleys’ house, creating a wall of flames that surround the house. Harry and Ginny are cornered in a field and threatened by the Death Eaters. The fight ends with Harry hitting Draco in the chest with a curse, leaving him unconscious on the floor with several bloody chest wounds.
Dumbledore cuts his hand with a knife to spill his blood on the rocks, but he continues to drink poison until it is all gone. When Harry goes to the edge of a lake to get Dumbledore some water, he is attacked by creatures that rise up out of the lake and pull him down under the water. Dumbledore recovers enough to create a fire storm, engulfing the creatures in flames and enabling Harry to escape.
Draco tells Dumbledore that he has to kill him because otherwise he will be killed by Voldemort. Dumbledore manages to convince Draco not to murder him, and Snape arrives and kills Dumbledore. Bellatrix uses her powers to explode numerous windows and burn Hagrid’s hut to the ground. Harry chases after Snape, but Snape manages to deflect Harry’s curses and leaves Harry unconscious on the ground.
The movie contains occasional low-level sexual innuendoes and references, such as a Hogwarts boy introducing Harry to Hermione, a Hogwarts boy sucking his finger while looking at Hermione, Ron Weasley referring to his girlfriend Lavender Brown, and a student asking Harry if they and Ginny did it then.
Why was Slughorn in hiding?
Slughorn, a wizard, initially believed he was Tom, the Dark wizard, due to his changed appearance. However, upon discovering that he was actually Tom, he was mortified. When Voldemort returned to Hogwarts in the late 1960s and early 1970s, Slughorn hid in his office to avoid meeting Tom. Despite the rumors of Voldemort’s immortality, Slughorn stayed at Hogwarts during the First Wizarding War, vowing never to tell anyone about his secret. He remained at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry for many years, teaching many talented students, including Lucius Malfoy, Gwenog Jones, Severus Snape, and Lily Evans.
Slughorn was known for her cheeky and natural flair for Potions, and Lily was one of his “all time favorite students”. Other favorite students during this time frame included Horace, his Slug Club, and many others.
Why does Slughorn like Ginny?
Ginny Weasley, a talented Hogwarts student, was first noticed by Slughorn when he saw her casting a Bat-Bogey Hex. She later became a professional Quidditch player for the Holyhead Harpies and later edited the sports pages for the Daily Prophet. Slughorn was pleased with her career and likely took some credit for it.
Gwenog Jones, a prized member of Slughorn’s Slug Club, was also a first-name acquaintance with the Harpies, allowing him to get free tickets for their matches. Slughorn’s friendship with the Editor of the Daily Prophet was beneficial, as he was always interested in his take on the news of the day. This position of influence was reassuring, as it would be useful to know all the gossip of the wizarding world before anyone else. It is unlikely that any embarrassing or untoward story about Slughorn ever found its way into the paper while Cuffe was the Editor.
Why is Snape the half-blood prince?
Snape, a half-blood Death Eater, was born to Eileen Prince and Tobias Snape, a Muggle. His family was poor and he was neglected, leading to his eagerness to leave his home for Hogwarts. Snape’s loyalty was a significant question in the series until the end of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Despite being unfair and vindictive towards Harry and his friends, Snape always helped them when they were in danger. Dumbledore’s trust in him is generally taken as the final word, while Bellatrix Lestrange mistrusts Snape and only the word of Voldemort protects him from suspicions.

Absolutely fantastic scene, Dan delivers one of his best performances of all the movies. Music is on point too, perfectly capturing the whimsical state of mind Harry is in. Shame about the photography, it’s all brown and green when it could have been so much richer. David Yates’ stylistic choices left a lot to be desired tbf.
The entire scene around 2:40 is hilarious, all the way down to how he stands there. LOL. And then how the ‘fang’ falls off when he goes to get the venom in the vial. I feel like that was a prop malfunction that worked well because they kept going with it. Perfect for the professors character. Almost like everyone Harry encounters has had all their luck transferred to Harry.
I absolutely love the last scene, where Slughorn tells the story of Francis. It’s not from the books, and it’s one of my very few favourites that deviated from the original text that the movies made. (The other ones’ being the dragon chase in Goblet of Fire and the Harry and Hermione dance scene in Deathly Hallows.)
Does anybody know, whenever Harry meets someone and they say “You have your mother’s eyes”, is that writer’s indication that that person also loved Lilly. When Snape sees Harry for the first time, he says this and then in deathly hallows we find that Snape was in love with Lilly since childhood years. Slughorn also says the exact same words when he meets harry for thie first time, and then this whole story about rose petal fish. Dumbledore also convinces Snape to agree to his plan by taking advantage of Snape’s love for Lilly. Dumbledore says “he has his mother’s eyes” to bring out snapes love for lilly and use that to keep Harry alive. Dumbledore knew Snape loved Lilly. This one phrase about Harry having lilly’s eyes is repeated many times in the whole story, is it an indication by the writer thata reader is supposed to catch ? I havent read the books.
What are all of the things from those movies this would have fixed? * Slughorn was involved with the final showdown with Voldemort. A couple vials of this might have helped in a war. Imagine who may not have died with luck on their side. * Remember how hard it was to find horcruxes? * Remember how hard it was to find a way to destroy them? Dumbledor destroyed one on his own. Voldemort destroyed one. All of the others were destroyed with a basilisk fang (or the sword which only worked because it absorbed a basilisk’s power). I’m only looking at events after this was introduced in the 6th movie. What did I miss?
Its interesting, is it not? Dumbledore and Snape tried to get Harry to be collected by Slughorn for being such an epic student of Potions….and in the end, it WASN’T Harry’s prowess with potions that gained him the knowledge they needed about Voldemort…but it was Harry telling him about Lily’s brave sacrifice and encouraging Slughorn to be brave like Lilly was.

Fun fact: Slughorn ripping the leg off Aragog was an accident as the prop broke when he touched it. The awkward look towards Hagrid was an apologetic look to one of the producers, and it was kept in the film as it fit the humour of the scene. Edit: that’s why during the shot of Slughorn giving his speech you can see Aragog still has his legs intact, it was shot first and was meant to be that way. Edit2: Just in case people didn’t get it, this was obviously a lie. All you have to do is watch the article and you can see I’m full of it. I Hate the fact that the felix felicis wasn’t utilized more in the movie. If I remember correctly, Harry used the potion then used the invisibility cloak which he bumped into Ginny and her Bf, which caused them to break up. That’s another thing, the movie did not convinced me that Harry liked Ginny, let alone was inlove with her… But I digress. Then The potion was also used during the attack. it’s the reason why The students had a chance against the death eaters and why they were easily pushed back.
I think Felix Felicis works as a mind enhancing potion, at least giving one sharpness of wit enough to allow them to work out the best solution to a problem. In this case, it probably helped Harry piece together some information he might have not noticed he was taking in at the time. For instance, he has been perusal Slughorn for months, so must have become intimately familiar with his movements, probably noticing he hangs around herbology a lot, and probably had noticed that Hagrid, who is a good friend, had been quiet or somewhat subdued, and suspecting something was wrong, but never paid either of those notions much attention. Luck is a state of mind, it’s just being able to conceive a good idea on the fly, or perhaps just planning out your movements to the fullest faculties, picking up those little notions you never thought twice about.
Lol Harry seemed genuinely happy with the liquid luck, probably the happiest he’s been in the film series IMO Also, I just realized that there’s a reason why he said that Harris’s place was “the place to be tonight.” That wasn’t jus some random thought, but it was Harry’s tuition, I believe. Because by hanging out with Hagrid and slughorn and casually hanging out with them, he was able to naturally connect with slughorn and get his darkest secret without bombarding him after class.
This is my favorite scene from all of the Harry Potter films. This may be a hot take but Half Blood Prince will always be my favorite of the movies. Yes they did leave a lot of crucial stuff from the book. But I love the tone of this film I feel it’s a nice high school romcom in ways. And felt it very relatable when I was in high school. Except there wasn’t any magic at my school and my Principal didn’t die.

Harry used FF to get Slughorn to fill in a plot hole. However, there’s no rule that says Chekhov’s Gun can’t be fired TWICE! I’m convinced that, after Harry hit Draco with Sectumsempra and got banned from Quidditch with less than 48 hours to the Cup final, Ginny asked Hermione for some FF herself, which caused her to lead Gryffindor to the Cup and for Harry to seal their romance… No way to prove it but it SEEMS plausible…
This reminds me of the time I had convinced a teacher to help polish off a pint of rum. It he dropped dome knowledge on that can’t be taught in the classroom and actually talked down from hurting my self or just from giving up on life. I thank him for that. If it wasn’t for him I proudly would have my 2 kids or a wife who loves me.
