To water plants while on vacation, there are several ways to keep them healthy and happy. One of the most effective ways is to set up a DIY wick watering system, which can be done using items already in the house. Another option is to use self-watering pots, add watering spikes to pots, or use Blumat plant watering stakes.
To water larger areas, you can use the glass bottle method, which involves submerging a rope in water and placing one end in the soil and the other in the pot. This method works well when you have a large outdoor area.
Indoors, place houseplants in the sink, bath, or shower and fill it with about 10cm of water. Leave them to absorb the water for 15 minutes before draining and placing them back in their places. Water your plant as usual, but do not overwater. Leave the plant in indirect sunlight because direct sunlight will heat up the plants.
Submerge stakes in water for about 15 minutes and let them absorb the water. Fill up your sink or bathtub with water and lay a towel inside to protect against scratches. Rest your potted plants in the sink.
For potted plants, sit on top of a mat and suck up water as needed. Use a resealable plastic bag full of water with a wick to pull the water out at a steady rate. Place a pot of water beside the plant and place one end of a twisted rag in the water and the other end buried slightly in the soil. Lay an old towel in the tub to protect the surface, then place the pots on top of it. Fill the tub with a few inches of water and you’re ready to go.
In summary, these simple ways to water plants while away on vacation can help ensure your indoor and outdoor garden stays happy and healthy.

Nah I don’t trust friend and neighbors to water my babies. They will either forget, under water, or over water. None of them garden or know anything about plants. Lol. I may try the empty soda bottle method in my garden bed. I’ll use 2 one on each end as it’s a 10 ft bed. For the plants in pots two of them have a design in the pot itself where you could fill the bottom with water so I’ll be doing that for those two and for the other six I’m going to do a pot with water and use water wicking rope coming out of it for those plants I think I’m just going to keep them on my porch so they get some light but not direct light.
