How To Ship Live Orchids In A Package?

To pack an orchid for shipping, follow these general guidelines:

  1. Place the orchid in a clay pot for added stability. Insert a stake to support the flowers during transport to protect the inflorescence from too much movement, especially if the orchid has large, heavy flowers. Gently wrap the orchid in batting, florists wrapping paper, or tissue paper.

  2. Order disposable heat packs online and consider selling some of their stock. Pack the orchids securely and place them inside cardboard boxes to ensure they will make it okay even with rough handling. If you overspent and came home with more orchids than your budget can handle, consider packing them in cardboard boxes.

  3. Prepare the orchid plant by cleaning its roots in shredded wax paper and/or tissue or cotton-like padding to prevent injury. Carefully wrap the plant in paper, filling the voids of the box with extra paper for additional cushioning and insulating value.

  4. Examine the plant and make sure it is healthy and okay to be shipped. Stake the plant and take shredded tissue, cotton padding, or wax.

  5. Study Mexican import laws for live plants and issue any necessary phytosanitary certificates and permits. Plants usually arrive via FedEx, the Postal Service, or UPS. Gently wrap the orchid in batting, florists wrapping paper, or tissue paper to protect the flowers and leaves. Secure paper with tape.
