How To Grow Tulips In A Container Outside?

Tulip bulbs can be planted outdoors in spring, starting when the soil is workable. If the leaves are still green, wait until they turn brown and remove them. Choose a sunny location, preferably one that is warm during winter and early spring. If you have forced tulips to grow in a pot or received them as a gift, you can save the bulbs and replant them outside for a future beautiful spring bloom.

Plant tulips in containers with a depth of about three times their height, remove the bulb from the potting soil completely, cut off the roots near the basal plate, and cut off the stem/leaves. Plant the bulbs in a pot with drainage holes, half fill with soil or compost, and plant them pointed-side up, at least 5 inches apart. Plant them in moist but well-drained soil in a sunny spot in mid- to late autumn, with November being ideal.

Plant bulbs pointed-side up, at least 5 inches apart, fill the holes with amended soil and water, and fertilize with the same all-purpose soil. Plant the bulbs in rich, well-drained soil as soon as possible and mark the spot so they don’t forget them. Tulip bulbs like sunny areas with good soil that isn’t too wet but not too dry.
