How Often Do Orchids Bloom Again?

Orchids typically bloom once per year under the right growing conditions, but some can bloom twice or thrice yearly, resulting in a longer bloom period. To stimulate orchids to rebloom, apply fertilizer, water, and provide proper lighting conditions. Wait until all old flowers have fallen away, and follow nature’s light cycle. Remove the dead flower spike and prune the flower spike after the orchid has finished flowering.

Orchid flowers are known for lasting several months, but most species only bloom once a year, usually during the same time each year. Phalaenopsis or moth orchids can be encouraged to rebloom with the right care and attention. Moth orchids (Phalaenopsis hybrids) look impressive on a tabletop until the long-blooming flowers fade. Then, it’s rejuvenation time. Some orchids will not flower more than once on the same stem, with the exception of the moth orchid or the Phalaenopsis. A happy, healthy orchid will usually rebloom every 8 to 12 months, but some will flower again in the same season.

Phalaenopsis orchids generally bloom just once a year, but with special care, you may be able to get them to rebloom repeatedly. Fall is the best time for your orchid to rebloom naturally. Some orchid species can bloom multiple times per year, while others can only do one. Fertilizing your orchids is generally recommended.

Orchids bloom only once from each flower stalk, with the exception of Phragmipedium and Phalaenopsis orchids. Phragmipedium can bloom for several months, while experts expect orchids to bloom for six to 10 weeks.
