How To Maintain Orchids While They Are In Bloom?

Orchids are a beautiful and easy-to-care-for houseplant that can be easily grown under the right conditions. However, they have several common problems that can cause them to fail to bloom. Root rot, often caused by overwatering, is a common issue that occurs when roots become waterlogged and decay. To prevent this, follow these practical orchid care tips while your Phalaenopsis orchids are blooming, such as keeping them away from harsh sunlight exposure and sources of heat.

After flowering, it’s essential to prune your orchids to keep them happy after they bloom. Cut back fading flowers while they’re blooming to keep the plant neat and encourage new blooms. Use sharp shears or clippers to make a clean, even cut.

To maintain the health of your orchids, follow these care tips: water them properly, place them in a bright spot with plenty of indirect sunlight, and give them at least six hours of bright, indirect light from a south or east-facing window. Position your orchid in a bright windowsill facing east or west and feed them weekly with a fertilizer designed for orchids.

When moving your orchid to a room with a temperature between 65 and 75 degrees for a couple of weeks during the resting period, ensure that the light levels are not too fast. Orchids need bright light to produce blooms, so give them as many hours of bright, indirect light as possible, ideally in a south- or east-facing room.
