Oriental lilies bloom for two to three weeks, depending on factors like climate, soil quality, and care and maintenance. They bloom just as Asiatic lilies are fading, with the Oriental lily flowers opening in mid- to late summer. Both Asian lilies and Oriental bulbs bloom in June to July, with Oriental bulbs starting to appear in August. Both are easy to grow with thick, rigid stems, strappy leaves, and showy flowers.
The ‘Stargazer’ lily (Lilium orientalis ‘Stargazer’) is a large, showy, fragrant perennial that blooms in mid- to late summer. The flowers are pink and white with reflexed tips, meaning they curve back. Oriental lilies are the classic “late bloomer”, continuing the Lily parade in the landscape well into the season. Growing Oriental Lilies is fairly easy, provided you have the necessary tools.
Asian lilies bloom in early summer, with upward or outward facing flowers in a rainbow of colors. Most Oriental Lilies boast 2-6 blooms per stem depending on the variety. Their vase life can be up to 45 days, and they can be removed from the stalks (deadheading) to prevent the plant from diverting.
All true lilies will flower between spring and fall, with some varieties blooming all summer long. Oriental hybrids bloom in mid- to late summer, just when Asiatic lilies are fading. An Asiatic lily produces one bloom per season that lasts about a month.
