Growing Alstroemerai Plants For Flowers?

Alstroemerias are a popular perennial that adds long-lasting blooms to gardens and are easy to grow. They produce showy flowers in a wide variety of colors from early summer to the first frosts, making them a great addition to borders and containers. To grow alstroemerias, prepare the soil well with organic matter, plant them in full sun or very light shade, and water them well. Tall varieties may need staking if they are in a windy spot.

Start by soaking the bulbs in water for 24 hours to jump-start germination. Dig holes 6-8 inches deep in well-draining soil and plant the bulbs with the pointy side facing up. Alstroemerias thrive in different light conditions and are hardy and easy to grow. They can be grown in pots and require full sun to flower well.

Plant alstroemerias in moist but well-drained soil with a pH between 5.5 and 6.3. Alstroemerias thrive with consistent moisture, especially during flowering, and once established, they tolerate short droughts without a problem. Alstroemeria tubers can be planted in spring, early summer, or fall, depending on your climate.

Alstroemerias are easy to grow and flower from May to November in a UK garden and even longer in some other countries. They prefer regular moisture of one inch of water per week, rich, well-draining soil, and full sun, although they will need shade from the sweltering sun. Alstroemeria flowers should be planted in an area of your garden that is mostly sunny, as they thrive when receiving full morning sun and sunlight.
