Eat Tulips, Can Bearded Dragons?

Bearded dragons are omnivores and can eat a variety of flowers, but some should be avoided due to potential toxins or stomach upset. Some appropriate types of flowers for bearded dragons include daisy, hibiscus, marigold, rose, tulip, and carnation varieties. Adult bearded dragons will eat more fruit and veggies than younger ones, as they grow and need a diet higher in protein and fat.

The most dangerous type of plant for bearded dragons is any flowering variety from the lily family such as daffodils, tulips, or azalea. Turnips can be a nice treat for your bearded dragon but are not as healthy as turnip greens and don’t have an ideal calcium-to-phosphorus ratio. It is better to avoid tulips.

A Ca:P ratio of 2:1 or up to 3:1 is crucial in your dragon’s diet. If phosphorus levels in the food are higher, balance out with higher calcium food. Bearded dragons require a mix of live protein sources, greens, and an occasional fruit treat. The exact mix of these things will change as the bearded dragon ages.

Bearded dragons can eat various plants, including tulips, Virginia creeper, Vetches, Water hemlock, Waxberry, and wild daffodil. However, it is best to avoid feeding them flowers like daffodils, boxwood, tulips, and hollyhock. Always wash your flowers and introduce new flowers slowly to their diet.

In summary, bearded dragons require a special diet that includes live protein sources, greens, and occasional fruit treats. It is important to follow easy guidelines and avoid feeding them toxic flowers like daffodils, boxwood, tulips, and hollyhock.

  • Anybody who does any research about lizards, even just in a general sense and not species specific, will find that very few species are considered as being “mentally slow” or “dull witted” when compared to similarly sized mammals. Head bobbing is a way of communicating in multiple lizard species, while waving also appears as a form of communication in both lizards and some amphibians. At the end of the day, everything both wants AND needs to communicate, it is up to US as the dominant and highly intelligent life form we are to pay attention and learn what these creatures are trying to tells in their own way.

  • My mum used to believe dog can’t get jealous, and I would tell her a million times they do get jealous. Our lovely black puppy Layla and our beloved nanny dog Cassidy proved when Layla was being pet by Mom and loved on by her Cassidy snapped at her and pushed her out of the way being the bigger more dominant dog

  • I lived in Key West in the mid fifties. I was in the fourth and fifth grade. There were different kinds of lizards running around. The ones that were primarily green were the ones I caught the most. I called them chameleon because they would try to imitate the color they were resting on. Mom let me let them loose in the house because they ate the bugs. They would probably get into the house anyway. One time my grandmother from Michigan came to visit. I told her to look carefully at the chair she was going to sit in because there might be a lizard there. She said that was disgusting.

  • Ahhhh, thanks for posting this article. Just learned a lot about bearded lizards. I had no idea you can create such a bond with them! Chuck is absolutely adorable. And yes, all God’s creatures are amazing. We just need to take the time to get to know them. Humans definitely underestimate the animal kingdom. ☮❤👩‍🦳

  • Maybe you didn’t know but that had Bob is the attempt to gain dominance and it isn’t a good thing it is area that dark beard means upset. Mouth open is a regulation thing for heat and the size bites you are feeding him are huge bites is terrible they should be able to be swallowed hole if he sees fit, don’t forget the protein and get him some bugs, he likes the guy in your article. People like you kill me. Obviously not a lizard gal, mi’s information or is not that is always a sign of irritation, the wave is him telling you he is in charge. If you feel different then pay to take the dragon to a proper vet there are some just for exotics most likely not your dogs vet either. But maybe there’s something wrong with that dragon if it ALWAYS bobs poor thing. Too bad seeing that honestly, glad you love the dragon but get to know it. Check the sec again too the flashlight trick always works well, the tiny brownish bumps along the invalid of the thighs would mean girl dragon BTW. The v with a light shining under near the poop hole shine right up looking down a is a boy. But please stop liquorice at the poor thing all distressed it kills real dragon people. Gotta lock chick or Chuck as she’s calling you. Cold blooded creatures need heat and space to play a bigger tank might be in order 65 gallon is ok for a dragon to grow in unless your want to stunt their growth ugh smh… All those chemicals it’s getting off you too geez lady come on it isn’t for show it’s to love.
