The Harbor Freight 6×8 greenhouse is a versatile greenhouse that can be built on various foundations. The greenhouse can be assembled in a few days, with the assembly process being stress-free and looking good. The greenhouse kit includes a base, support structure, aluminum framework, doorway opening, benches and shelves, UV-resistant skin, hinges, and door assembly.
To build the greenhouse, the owner must decide on a level, well-lit area that is sheltered from wind and the greenhouse door should not open towards prevailing winds. The greenhouse kit also includes a manual for the 93358 10 Ft. x 12 Ft. Greenhouse with 4 Vents, which provides detailed instructions on how to build and install the greenhouse.
At least one meter of perimeter space around the greenhouse is recommended for tasks such as cleaning and assembly. At least two assistants will be necessary during assembly, as wind can damage the greenhouse and make assembly difficult.
In summary, the Harbor Freight 6×8 greenhouse is a versatile greenhouse that can be assembled in a few days without a deadline. The greenhouse kit includes instructions on how to build and install the greenhouse, as well as a detailed manual for the greenhouse kit.

📹 Assembling HARBOR FREIGHT greenhouse | Is it WORTH the money?
In this video, we assemble a new Harbor Freight greenhouse that my parents gifted us. I have a love hate relationship with Harbor …
Your instructions and article are amazing. I am a 70 something woman and was able to manage to put this together by myself. I moved things around a lot so I could prop things up or together until I was able to get bolts and nuts and screws started. I even took screenshots of the your article to take outside to make sure I was putting the bolts in the correct direction. After reading the instructions I thought I had made a huge mistake but when I found your article I was able to finish this easily. Thank you for the tremendous work it took to do this article!
I do not leave comments on helpful articles just because I’m lazy but I had to say something about your article and echo so many other comments. You were a lifesaver and like others I ran in and out of the house ingesting the article fifteen seconds at a time. As others have stated far more eloquently; the original instructions sucked eggs. I threw them away and followed you to the end result of a wonderful little greenhouse that I am very impressed with.
Thank GOD you put this article together. Parts are razor sharp and instructions leave you at times scratching your head. Your article clears up the instruction manual perfectly. Only thing I would add is wearing safety glasses when installing window clips because they will fling out of the track at lighting speed and luckly I was wearing glasses or I would be one eye less.
Wife and I put up our 6×8 today. I can honestly say it’s the first project we’ve done together without one of us blowing our stack at the other and walking away!😠 Absolutely the best instructional article I’ve seen, bar none👍…I’m sharing this link with our greenhouse community page📢 Every one should have an enjoyable experience with this project😊 Thanks for the article…extremely well done!👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Just finished building the frame for the 6×8, this article was so much help. A couple of things to add to the tool list all from HFT 1, The large telescoping magnet, I’m 74 and a bit clumsy, so the magnet was big plus for me. 2 . The large magnetic parts holder. I used two one for bolts the other for the nuts. They sent exactly the number required, not a single thing extra. Next is to install the polycarbonate panels. I hope that part isn’t to bad. Thanks for taking the time to make this article.
Thank you. Thank you. I cannot add any more positive words than you have already received. I had reached a point of total shutdown wherein I could not figure why a couple of supports would not fit (I hate having leftover parts after assembling something) and the instructions (which got me into this situation) were worthless. Your article showed me where I went wrong and I am now on the path to success! So, thank you.. again.
I hope this article will always be here for others to use. It really aught to be sold with each greenhouse. I got this greenhouse half price because the woman who bought it couldn’t use it where she wanted. If I had to follow that booklet of “instructions”, I wouldn’t have set it up at all. Thank you, Bearded fisherman, for taking the time to show and tell step by step!! I am now to the point that tomorrow I start putting the door together and really appreciate how simple you have made this!
I looked at several articles and this one by the bearded fisherman blew all the rest out of the water. I only came across this article by accident. It could not have been done any better by a professional. This article made my life a lot easier. I only wish I had discovered it sooner. Thank you bearded fisherman
Sir, Your article is by far THE BEST article that I have ever seen and used! It saved me hours/days in assembly. I even went on HarborFreight and did a review there . I like the greenhouse but hated the assembly instructions and I’m good at that stuff! Told HF they needed to pay you for your article! Outstanding Sir! Absolutely THE BEST article EVER! Thank You So Much! Sincerely Russell Best
Thanks for recording the article. Though I’ve purchased my prefab from another company, many of the different names or labels have similar if not same designs. Just from perusal your article, I feel brave enough to give this assembly a try. I am going to still pray before tackling the assembly and then watch your article again. Then pray and then get busy. Smile. Thanks, my friend.
Thank you. You made it so easy to install. I looked at the instructions for about 10 minutes and put the book down. My daughter was driving me crazy to install and I just kept making excuses because the instructions were just so hard to understand. Only took about 4 hours to install it with your help. That’s the Fram. I’m waiting on my daughter to install the plastic panels. The door install was kinda hard to understand
Idk if you will see this but I just built this and used your article as my guide. Well at first i just laid gravel on dirt and leveled it but not realizing that this green house is not very tall. So i dug out like you but was wonder if you would know a cheaper alternative to the beams you used? I was thinking either pressure treated 2×6 or 2×8 laid on its side or maybe even propping a 2×6 on some blocks. I am not sure what would be stable and cost effective but I love your idea of it being dug into the ground.
I really got to say awesome article very detailed. I just purchased one spent two hours looking at it😏I was going to have somebody come over to put it together until I seen your article.Me and my daughter have a mechanic shop we can build motors do Transmission’s But I am not no Carpender lol 😂 thanks again great help ..I rather install a transmission 🤔👍
Thank you for making this article. At step one, my floor beams didn’t line up with their product (same as you), and I about lost my mind. Came to YouTube and found your tutorial I am currently demilling and rebuilding several CH47D helicopters at work, and the instructions to do that are way more intuitive than the garbage Hobo Freight included for this build. Without your article, this greenhouse would likely be a smoldering pile of burt plastic and melted aluminum by the end of the day
I followed your article today and was able to put this together pretty easily. If I had the followed the instructions, I would have been pretty irritated. The only thing I would change is installing the plastic skins into the door before installing so you don’t have to take it back apart. I probably should have also built the foundation first to ensure square, but I’ll worry about that tomorrow when it goes in the yard. Thanks!
Thank you for the article my wife and I had the frame completed minus the panels in less than 3 hours. If not for your article it would have taken a day or two and a lot of profanity. I plan to lose the panel retaining clips and use screws and silicone to mount them instead. Also will go with a wood frame interior to beef up the whole unit for years of use. Keep the awesome articles coming great job best I’ve seen on youtube my friend.
I couldn’t have put mine together without perusal this article a few times! Especially while I was putting it together. The two tips I would add is, where gloves or use a tool when putting the clips on, my finger tips are raw. Secondly, next time I’d put the door together with it’s panels in place before hanging it. I didn’t do that an am regretting it.
You did a really great job making this article, thank you for sharing! We just put mine up, unfortunately I didn’t see your article till after lol, but with all of the flaws mine had we still were able to get it built and useful…the box had been damaged a bit, but I didn’t look inside till about 2 years later…I got it for $86 but I wasn’t ready to build it yet, couldn’t pass up the great deal, when I finally opened it I found out that a 1/3 of the panels were damaged and a couple of aluminum pieces bent, too late to take it back 🤪 Take care!
I’m a nearly 70-something, and I think your instructions are the only ones that show orientation of particular pieces. This thing is a bit of a nightmare. I had to go back 3x to get ALL the pieces, as several important bags of bits were missing, as well as some of the bigger metal pieces! I’m doing it solo, and it hasn’t been any fun at ALL. Do, undo, redo…. I might have packed it all up and gone back a 4th time to ask for a refund if it were not for your article. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
So helpful to get your comments about the base dimensions being wrong – i built my foundation based on your measurements and a layout of my actual pieces, and sure enough it was 1/2″ smaller than the directions. My family was so annoyed at first when we would complete a step and then have to come back inside to watch 10 more seconds of article – until about an hour in, when they realized how bad the paper directions were! I also had issues with the Part #33 on the windows being too small and also misdrilled so the window wouldn’t fit inside the frame. I finally got around it by using part #32 as a template for the hole width and then redrilling.
This article was awesome. Thank you for doing this!! I am planning to get this greenhouse but had a few questions that I was hoping you could help me with…Are the side panels easy to pop on/off because we live in an area that gets really hot and want to be able to ventilate the greenhouse without having to use fans. Also, how sturdy is it because we also get strong winds during the winter time. Thank you in advance for any help. I appreciate it.
I’ve been looking at this greenhouse for quite some time and was hesitant to purchase it as the reviews mentioned the difficulty in assembling. Your article has now made me more hopeful. I do have 2 questions. Can we assemble this without using a wood base (i.e. place it directly on a concrete patio)? If we intend to take this down every Spring, do you recommend it?
Thanks for your instructions. If I may make a suggestion, I had a lot of drag on the door an traced it to the top door support sagging. I found that inserting a 1/4″ piece of (in my case vinyl flooring) into the gap at the top of the door keeps it sliding very smoothly. God, when I finally got to the actual building part of the greenhouse (past the foundation), I was praying for a article just like this. The instructions are so limited and have almost no visual aids. Pretty poorly designed instruction book if you ask me. This article prevented me from losing my mind trying to build a greenhouse that I was then beginning to second guess. Thanks for that.
Mine has a part number 18 listed in the instructions right after installing the window supports, and my window supports have some sort of hook welded to it and neither are mentioned in this article, is Harbor Freight just messing with me? I’ve gone through everything looking for a part 18, naturally there isn’t a illustration of it either. Whoever wrote up and Illistrated the instructions for this must have been a sadist, and needs to be fired! I would not have been able to assemble this greenhouse without this article, I’m telling you!
Why u no give weal diwecshunz harbor fweight?!?! As I walked into HF one day last fall to go look around, a guy was struggling with a big box returning his 6×8 greenhouse. I assisted and when talking to him he was saying “forgettaboutit, I’m too old to be playin with erector sets, I’m making a hoop house instead! I’ll miss the whole growing season trying to get this thing set up!” I chuckled and finished helping him carry it in and to the register, then went about my business. As I grabbed what I was there for (misc hand tools) I watched an employee use a two wheeler to roll that greenhouse box out to the dumpster and he stood it against the wall I assumed to later toss it in with some help. Funny, after I left the store I grabbed an ice coffee further up the road and on my return trip by the store I swung by that dumpster and sure enough that big box was indeed sticking out. Funny, I didn’t need help grabbing it out and sliding it into my tahoe! So now I’ll get to try my hand at assembly, but I think I’m already ahead of the game paying a whopping $0 for it, but we’ll see… Oh stop, if they tossed it then it’s a write off correct, and you’d have probably grabbed it too! Pffffft, free is free my friends. Wish me luck😉 And thank you for the assembly help brother!
I have the same one. After about three years the panels become very brittle, replacement ones cost more than the kit. I ended up siliconing the panels after having a few blow out…others had recommended it but I didn’t do it right away…I should have listened. I raised mine up about a foot and that helped with the headroom issue. I also added 2×4’s inside to strengthen it against high winds….someone recommended doing that so I did that right away. I could never get the vent openers to work so I gave up…tooo many negative reviews to keep trying to find a few that work. This year I’m taking it down and building a raised bed in it’s place. Good luck with yours… might look into doing something extra for UV protection on those panels!
We are using ours now since 2 1/2 years…. we are okay with it. A storm blew all the panels out, so I fastened them to the frame with self tapping screw, bought 2 panels new, since we never could find them. Lastly I riveted the vertical over sliding door alu profil with a iron bar, as this is structural the very weakest point.
Mine isn’t HF, but it has wood diagonal boards across the 4 bottom corners. And I stack big rocks on these wood boards that hold the unit down, even in high winds. I also covered the floor with gravel and put benches on both sides that hold the flower pots and trays. Those automatic roof vent openers are wonderful, and keep the temp under control. And I put safety ropes on the roof vents fastened down to the workbench, that only allow the vent to go a certain distance up, in case a gust blows them open.
had that greenhouse for 5 or six years our winters get heavy snow. i kept it cleared as often as possible but came out multiple time to find it ok with a foot on it. my daughter has had it for 3 or 4 years now panels are tuckered but still usable. i just finished my second winter on the 10×12 h.f. replacement. did put a support pole from the ground to roof in the middle. both did well with gust to 15mph +. people like to complain to much about h. f.
I have the larger 10×12 version and live n Virginia by the coast. Have had it and actively used it since2007. Installed it on a deck board foundation and fastened to it. It’s in rough shape at this point but still is functional.has made I through two hurruicains and we get high wind storms from time to time, survived all of it. Panels do occasionally blow out but I just reinstall them, the clips are available for purchase separately as well as the panels. I replaced all the roof panels 1 time due to they cloud up over time but this does not affect its functionality. Honestly I never expected it to last this long. I believe I paid less than 500.00 with the coupon, no regrets and will buy another one. When this one is no longer repairable. Many great vegetable gardens from this greenhouse over the years, and now my kids enjoy starting seeds for the garden. Can’t put a price on this.
I have a 10×12. If you only use what’s in the box, assembled per instructions. Go ahead and get more panels on order and be ready to make repairs. There are a few very well and frequently documented tweeks / addons things to do to make it actualy stand up. I put mine on a concrete block “foundation. glued down, ordered extra pack or two of the metal spring clips that hold on the panels, screwed the panels to each horizontal brace (self tapping screws). put mobile home tie downs in the center of 3 sides, inside with cables going up to the 4 corners and turnbuckles to hold it down and square, taped the ends of the panels to keep them dryer. etc.
Burn the surface of the lumber first. Build an outdoor fire on the ground or use a tourch to burn the surface bringing the sap to the surface sealing the wood. Also keeps bugs from boring into the wood. Doing that will provide many more years use of the wood. Wipe off the chared surface with a rag if you want to however being on the ground it is not going to be handled so the char can be left on.
I’m an ocean and continent away, but have an extremely similar greenhouse. Most of the metal sections look identical, but the glazed parts are glass – at Lat52+N – we need maximum light as well as shelter and warmth. It is used mainly for germinating seeds and plants that won’t grow in our climate – eggplant and chillis – and then drying off onions and shallots, garlic and winter squash. Really effective for that. I had similar problems with getting the door to slide, even though the little strut did come with mine. No problems with the clips although working on sharp edged glass is a bit scrary. Mine is mounted on concrete. I screwed battens to the floor, then built the green house on top. It would have been far too heavy and dangerous to move when glazed. I left small gaps at each end so I could power wash as the end of each season. First to get rid of as many pests as possible, but also to get rid of the algae that grows fastest of all on the glass – both inside and out. Apart from removing the green mess, the powerwash removes the sunshade wash. Very like old fashioned limewash. It helps keep the temperatures under control – BTW, ours came with a thermosatic roof light control. I think it was a “free” gift! I have broken a couple of panes – wind blown branches or my carelessness. The clips make it easy to swap, even up in the roof. We can get standard 2’x2′”horticultural” glass cheaply anywhere. It is the blemished parts of regular glass making. Ours is now 7 years old. Looks good after it’s annual wash.
I am on year 3 on my HF Greenhouse, the exact model you just did. I used aluminum Duct tape to seal off both ends of each clear panel, to keep moisture out of them. Then I places sheet metal screw into the top of each vertical panel for added holding. Then I took some Lexel clear adhesive to seal the edges of each panel vertically. Especially on the roof panels, rain would fall in the sides.. and yeah, My fingers were RAW for a week… them clips are awful…. But my door doesn’t ride right on the btm track, so I keep a board there to hold it closed. I did put on an automatic vent opener on one of the vents, and it has been nice, and regulates the temps well, Good Luck with yours. I lined the floor with a tarp, and put a row of pavers to walk on, and filled the res with gravel from Home depot (bagged) to help hold warmth in the winter..
I built a wooden frame under mine and caulked the panels in place. Last year after 3 years the snow pushed in a roof panel but it has held up well so far. Definitely it wont last 10 years unless you caulk the panels and do maintenance every year. The roof panels cant take significant snow load even when caulked in place.
I had one of these and it blew apart before I even got to use it. You COULD silicone the panels in, and it will maybe stay together longer. I am NOT handy so I just bought an Amish built one that was delivered and put in place already together, I wasn’t cheap though. I am still paying on it. It was worth it though, it’ll take a tornado to move it, and tear it apart.
You have the smaller one I been thinking of the larger one they have. An Amish buddy of mine bought on and learned the hard way that it needs to be mounted good to the ground because the blow it a way. I would think a few 8 foot T post driven in the ground to about 3 feet and then scure the corners to it. that should keep it in place. Were I live we get some crazy winds some times.
LOL, Phew! At 15:29 I thought you two were going to Christen that greenhouse! LOL! Looking good! I like the windows will help get the heat out of there! We have a greenhouse and boy it gets hot, like way too hot. I am thinking about getting more of those little solar fans just to move the air around and out during those spells…pretty much July through Christmas here in Ohio.
I call them Harbor Fright . I have had really good luck with some of their products. I have used their grinders/ buffers and just throw them away when they stop. I may have thrown one away in 20 years. I probably have five or six in the shop that we use for deburring aluminium parts (with a deburr wheel). I am surprised they lasted this long.
was looking at this article.. making me think about adding wooden raised bed attach to the sides for weight. then I saw you attach wood to bottom instead of sides… I wonder if you could make a same sized 2×10 foundation and raising it 10 inches to add height…. what do you think? figure out how to keep from stepping over the 10 inch door sill… just thoughts… but the 2×10 foundation would allow a raised bed around the green house for weight and functionality
If you put another level of 6×6 you could probably stand up in it : ) My buddy has the same one he pointed the back to the north put 2″ mylar foam floor to cieling and put 3 plastic 55gal barrels painted black inside for a heatsink. He had lettuce and greens all winter and kept a tomato plant going till December good luck
I bought 2 of them and was going to put them together. I got the frame up and the wind blew it over. I staightened it up and put post at each corner then I got the panels in the wind blew the panels out and bent the frame. $1200.00 and I called harbor freight and they said it was only rated for 10 mph wind.
For the base frame, I stacked two 4×4’s then added a 2×12 on edge. This raised the ceiling enough that I could actually walk around in it. Although, stepping in and out takes attention. I need to build some steps now. I’ve had a few a the panels blow out during high winds, I just added more clips and yesterday’s gusts of 50mph+ did not bother anything. The roof vent panel retaining system is something else that needs tweaking to make it useful. I haven’t gotten that done yet, I taped them shut for the winter. I did tape the top edges of the panels before assembling, The bottoms could also be taped but so far I haven’t found that having the bottom edges open to be an issue, I did do that to one panel to experiment, not enough data to report though. I suspect that a fan will need to be added soon, but any greenhouse is likely to need fan(s).
That Green house is going to get mighty HOT when the sun stays on it and the temps are above 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Those top vents Windows will be necessary. Do you think the green house could sufficiently cool if you put screens on the vents? They would helps keep insects like fungus gnats, flies, aphids and maybe spider mites out. Spider mites are my nemesis. It is hot and dry here in the later spring and summer, and spider mites love that.
Well I do watch Cole the cornstar and so some “corny jokes” and cornball interaction was the perfect fun how not too or might work this way upload. Hmm, might be “download” but I degrees, your having fun and to me is the most important instructional subliminal message. Of course Kelly hasn’t lost her highschool hips and yours are there (good modeling scitt) but their placed slightly to the extra cornbread style (me too) and guys perusal guys is just wrong … for me. It is the insecure morgan Vlogging. Great camera work and commentary so a out of the park article. (Really,,, leave the park) just joking! I grab your articles before others so I either like this or am trying to get past it… think first option this time.. really, LOL
It’s sad that you couldn’t show how to put the door up. It’s sad that you can show how to put the window up because those are the most important parts and what are you do these black clips these directions are terrible. This greenhouse is horrible the worst ever belongs in the garbage it’s not worth it cost $500 is worth $200. I don’t recommend this greenhouse for nobody don’t spend your money on
