Are Shasta Daisies Resurrected Annually?

Shasta daisies are a hardy, versatile hybrid flowering perennial that can be grown in full sun or partial shade and tolerates varying soil conditions as long as it is well-draining. They are deer-resistant and drought-tolerant, making them a reliable source of beauty in gardens. These flowers return every spring or early summer and bloom until early fall. However, they can be aggressive growers, so it’s important to choose varieties that don’t produce these flowers.

Shasta daisies are short-lived perennials, meaning they come back each year if grown in the proper hardiness zone. They are extremely cold-hardy and do best in moist, well-drained soil. They are also drought-tolerant, so you won’t have to worry about them if you don’t get much rain for an extended period. They are versatile and can be propagated by division or from seed. Dividing the plant every 2 to 3 years produces new plants and rejuvenates them, as the center of the clump dies out after a couple of seasons.

In most climates, plant shasta daisies during the moderate temperatures of spring or fall. Starting Shasta daisies from transplants or divisions rather than seeds is generally preferable, as this method yields more plants. The most reliable propagation method is to divide your plants every other year, as they are often short-lived perennials.

Daisies are perennials, so consider your patch an ongoing addition to the garden. One way to propagate Shasta daisies is by dividing them every other year. Although they look their best for two to three years, after that, you’ll need a new plant. Older types of shasta daisies are biennial, growing a nice clump of leaves the first year and blooming like all git out the second.
