Want to start your very own lawn care business with an easy to follow and proven business plan? Or, are you a few years in but …
Love how you had to clarify $100 a yard. Hell yeah its $100 a yard, its hard work! If you don’t like it drive your Chevy Malibu to HD and pick up 15 bags of mulch at $3.50 bag and install yourself. We are in the business to make money not break even! Just found your website and have to say you make some good points…. Keep it real
i just installed 7 yards of triple shredded black mulch with a milorganite type of product mixed in on my own house. I paid $200 for it to have it delivered to my driveway from the nursery that is located 1/4 from my house. after all is said and done, the hard work lugging it around that yard in wheel barrels and spreading it out perfectly, hours later, my property looks incredible. There’s no doubt in my mind that would have charged a customer about $800 give or take for the job. hearing a quote like that sounds expensive at first, but after you do it yourself, it all makes sense. add gas to and from the supplier to the customer’s house as well.
Wow I got swindled by a lady who needed yard work. I’m not a professional and I can see myself being underpaid but for $78 over two days of weed whacking, mowing, weed pulling, shrub trimming, bagging, getting told every two minutes not to touch certain plants in the middle of a bunch of weeds, all around the entire perimeter of her house and her front yard plus in front of her sidewalk. I left both days covered in sweat and dirt. I got the job through an app called handy which apparently is the middleman for home advisor. Stay clear of this app it’s a complete scam. Lesson learned, you get fooled but you can’t get fooled again. Thanks for the informative article.
Thank you for showing a realistic picture of what a small landscaping job is before it’s done. This is my first time having someonelse do my landscaping he charged me around $200 to do the front yard curb appeal. I’m letting come back to plant some flowers I figure I give him 50.00 more. What do you think?
My wife and I are thinking about starting our own environmentally sustainable/green/organic zero emission earth friendly landscaping business here in Central Florida. There is a company called Mean Green Mowers that manufactures landscaping equipment, mowers, etc. that are completely emission free as well as being electrically powered and generate a very similar work output to gas powered equipment and so forth (less $ spent as well on gas obviously). There is high customer/client demand in this area for a landscaping business that is ecologically friendly to the planet; we found out there is a landscaping business based out of Sarasota called Eco-Lectric Landscape Maintenance that was the first in the state of Florida to offer such green/organic zero emission landscaping services. Our question to you is the following: do we offer to franchise their business model here in Orlando, offer to become partners, or copy their landscaping company but call it with a different name. Thanks!
Hey Guy’s need some help please. OK so I have this one client that has 27 acres of land and 107 trees, and he wants me to maintenance his entire land,” Spring clean ups, pretty much keep all of it clean for the people that mow. But he doesn’t want me to pay me for the job he wants to pay me hourly with my crew . How much should I charge him for the hour with three men? Thx you guy’s
People will laugh at your prices if you live here in el paso. Research it bro. The lawn care business here in el paso, Texas is ridiculous. You will not make it!! You will go broke!! People will not pay!! People expect for you to do what you just mentioned for 175 dollars …….IF!!!!! Just IFFFFFF you get lucky. Ridiculous…..SAD!!! …..Im giving up. I’m in the wrong field
The most difficult thing for me is figuring out how much time it will take for something I don’t do on a regular basis. I don’t have an issue with the man hour rate, etc. But if I estimate it will take 3 guys 4 hours and it ends up taking 4.5 hours, then I would have been off by about $100 or more. It is easy to just tell the customer a man hour rate, but some don’t want it priced that way. If it is something I rarely do, I just tell them, you know..I have no idea on the amount of time it will take, so the only fair way is to tell you a rough estimate but also make sure you understand I operate on a man hour rate and will have to charge according to that when the job is finished.
Ahh perfect timing… I just received 3 garden job quote requests from my website this past week. We typically keep it super simple.. Materials x 1.10 plus $110(2men)/ est. hours I take that total and multiply it by 1.15 (15%) to cover my ass for mess ups and bingo… I’m yet to lose money using this method and I close about 40% of jobs… I don’t need the jobs anyways as we have recurring mowing income. I usually give a range on estimated hours as well. Let me know what you think (I wrote this comment prior to perusal the article)
I may have a much job coming up but I am curious of how to charge. From what I understand the mulch would be delivered to the home so I would just be charging labor for myself. Its a 500,000 home in ohio so its pretty large, the yard is large aswell with alot of areas to mulch. I have to go get the measurements and come up with a price and I was curious of how I should go about it. Should I charge by the cubic yard and if so how much is it for labor per cubic yard? Should I charge by the hour if so how much, what if I get it done quicker than expected and I screw myself? Any info back would would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Nice property. First I look to see if they are driving a Mercedes or Tesla haha. Actually does not matter the home speaks for itself. I quickly did the math before you said how much. Sounds all about right. I started out long ago charging by the bush and all that stuff sucks the life out of ya. KISS!
