Over 1,000 sunflowers were defaced and damaged in an Oconomowoc farm field, impacting the owner’s livelihood. The owner claims that his crops were tampered with, and a small section cut out on the elementary school side of the farm is now open for people to get up close and personal with the sunflowers for free. Stonebank Sunflower Farm, located in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, is filled with about 500,000 beautiful blooms, which are only planted in the field about every six years.
The story behind this field sounds very interconnected, as the farm is an interconnected, ecological web. The owner did not plant sunflowers in 2021, but they plan to do so again in 2022. The farm is also growing sunflowers, wildflowers, pumpkins, peonies, and hydrangeas this year.
Flowers will be available for sale during the Oconomowoc Summer Farmers Market this year, with unique vintage cottage garden bouquets of locally grown cut flowers. Visitors can place a floral delivery or schedule a free wedding at the farm. The farm is an interconnected, ecological web, and the owner is working to restore the fields to their former glory.
