Someone Observes That Her Houseplants Are?

A person observes that her houseplants that are regularly exposed to music seem to grow more quickly than those in rooms without music. This leads her to determine that plants grow better when exposed to music. This example most closely resembles which type of plant she is referring to.

Inductive reasoning is used to explain this phenomenon. The person notices that her houseplants that are regularly exposed to music seem to grow more quickly than those in rooms with no music. As a result, she concludes that plants grow better when exposed to music. This conclusion can be applied to various types of plants, such as flowers, vegetables, and even animals.

The person’s observations suggest that plants that are regularly exposed to music tend to grow more quickly than those in rooms without music. This suggests that plants can adapt to different environments and thrive in different conditions. Inductive reasoning can be used to support this conclusion, as it allows the person to make inferences about the growth patterns of their houseplants based on their exposure to music.

In summary, the person’s observations suggest that plants grow better when exposed to music, which can be a useful tool for understanding the relationship between plants and their environment. By observing and analyzing these observations, the person can develop a more effective approach to promoting plant growth and health.

  • I don’t think this is so cut and dry. She sounds like my mother. She’d repeatedly ask my dad if he did something over and over until he just said yes to shut her up. Then she’d tell everyone he was insane. Though he was a good man, he’d often take the flak that was intended for me without question, and he’d get so much more shit than I would for it. This has the same vibe. Sleeping in a different room over it feels excessive too. You’re pissed off, that’s fine. But staying in your child’s room whilst they’re probably thinking “you’re invading my safe space because you yelled at dad over some plants?” Then to get a “confession” twice, and threaten to leave over it? She sounds like my mother did, unstable. I’d like to hear his point of view on all of this.

  • He’s a sadist, his only goal was to hurt his wife and daughter. He started off small, probably testing the waters and seeing how much he could get away with and it would’ve only ramped up slowly over time had OP not caught him. Hope he reveals his true colors to his new girlfriend sooner rather than later, who knows what he’s capable of.

  • I remember this story it came out around a time where I came across a trend of women describing something similar to what happened to op. Their husbands destroying their possessions, belittling their hobbies or the extreme getting them pregnant if they were in school or had a better job than the partner. All to “humble” them. In all the stories they all said the same thing “if you husband does anything that makes you feel small he jealous and hates you” There’s another story similar to this and I wonder if it ever got updated. A woman went on a trip and her husband(?) poured a cup of water into her terrarium completely destroying it. Some people think it’s dumb to think or go through divorce over stuff like this but they don’t understand that’s it’s a HHHUUUGE red flag.

  • Story 1: Does it matter why he did it, doubly so if he lied about it, too? There is no good reason to do this, it’s just gradients of awful. I challenge you to come up with a reason that is not relationship ending. Go on. I’ll wait. “She deserved to be knocked down a peg” is definitely not an acceptable reason, though. Wtf is wrong with him? Absolute psychopath.

  • “I needed to knock you down a peg”, that legit gave me chills. It reminded me of the story of the husband who secretly took articles of his wife when they had sex, or even drugged her with her own medication, and posted them online because he resented that she made more money than him. People like this are absolutely sick, and it’s just lucky OP found out the monster she married because he escalated to finding other ways to “punish” her, or shudder to think, their daughter.

  • Story 1 : If I had to guess the guy is a psychopath, It doesn’t make sense that he is harming the plants other than he wants to see her suffer and his own daughter as well, stealing her dolls and lecturing her, probably getting a lot of satisfaction form it. Yes, this is psychopathic behavior, he is dangerous, he didn’t change, he was always like that, he had a mask on like all those sick people who have that condition.

  • oh, no, no, no no OP saying that she didn’t want to make is seem worse than it is. WTF, she is still in denial. He kicked her in the face. KICKED HER IN THE FACE. That is as bad as it gets. It does not get worse, unless he kills her, or her daughter. She is well rid of him but she needs therapy so she grasps how dangerous the situation was and why, and how, she ignored the signs of the abuse. I am glad she is out.

  • This story reminds me of a story about a women who had serious problems with identity theft. Every time she changed financial institutions, closed credit cards, made police reports, more problems cropped up. Then her mother passed away and everything stopped. Six months after her mom’s death, she stumbled upon boxes and boxes of incriminating evidence. Her mom held her hand- helped her, reassured her and yet she was the one who stole her daughter’s identity.

  • Story 1 – Hes doing it because he hates op having literally anything in her life other than him. And he very probably hates her generally. Killing a woman’s plants is often a stopping off point between lesser hab buse to far worse. He gets to kill something living that needs care and time, but without suffering the social sue of side if it gets out into his social circle what he did. If he gets away with this, he will get FAR bolder. Its almost always a man doing this to a woman, and thankyou Mark for drawing attention to this. Men doing this to plants needs MORE attention becuase its a portent of far, far worse things to come if you dont GET OUT. Edit : Oh and he was emotionally tor tur ing the kid too. Wonderful.

  • So we’re just going to glance over that op’s husband was pulling similar antics with their small female child? His justification for killing OP’s plants (she needed to be taken down a peg) screams she married a guy with serious problems that probably include some sort of personality disorder and/or hating women because good grief who does that to their partner let alone their CHILD.

  • Hey mark! Just wanted to tell you I’ve managed to get my entire family perusal your website! Parents watch them during the day and sometimes they’ll broadcast it to a Bluetooth speaker and we’ll all be in the living room listening. Love getting to hear all the wacky stories with the fam! Thanks for all you do 😀

  • The plants are a giant red flag. The toys prove that he’s a sadist. This is the kind of man who cannot be helped with therapy. “There is a reason!” No, Mark, there probably isn’t. He just wants to hurt her because. That’s the reason. “Therapy only teaches narcissists to be better narcissists”. Yeah. Update: “He doesn’t want custody”. Thank goodness for psychos that just lose interest.

  • Story 1 guy sounds a LOT like the husband/boyfriend who killed OP’s terrarium by overwatering it when he was just meant to do nothing at all. That too was a shared hobby OP got from her no longer here mother He also sounds like that one story with the daughter/steph daughter who punished her mother/steph mother by destroying her plants

  • Story 1 BEFORE the Update: When he says that the inky reason for doing so was to “knock you down a peg,” and you find that he’s been intentionally stealing your daughter’s toys behind her back and then berating her for losing them, that’s the moment you change the locks, divorce his ass, and prepare in case the police need to be involved. He’s willfully and INTENTIONALLY harming the people he’s supposed to love and protect. That’s not just a narcissist any more, that’s a sadist at the minimum and a full blown sociopath from there. Story 1 AFTER the Update: “Pushed me to the floor twice and kicked me in the face,” “the police have been involved.” And there’s the snap. Thank god you had people there for you (based on the context this most likely happened when she let him back in to get his shit) who were ready to protect you and get the police involved. I pray for you and your daughter’s safety, but I STRONGLY advise moving out of there sooner rather than later. Because as other people have said, killing the plants was just a trial run of sorts. He’s shown his true colors now. And more likely than not, he WILL be back to kill you.

  • Job interview story. I had a job interview for a personal assistant job with the person I would be working for who owned a small in home business. He asked “What wouldn’t you do if I asked?”. I replied “Work for someone who would ask me that question” excused myself and got up to leave. He was mortified and apologized saying he just wanted to know know about personal errands and household stuff. I told him he should rephrase the question to the next candidate and left. Maybe so, maybe not. I wasn’t interested in finding out.

  • S1: Just the title has me fuming. I have a lot of houseplants too, it’s dorky, but they all have names. I would be simultaneously livid and destroyed if someone purposely killed my plants, but my spouse? That’s an added layer of betrayal. He killed living things…as what, some power trip? This is not a person you want to be married to. Noooo, not the monstera albo! “Deserved to be knocked down a peg?” Who thinks that about someone they claim to love! Not to mention the thought he put into it, only doing certain jugs so they weren’t dying all at the same time, and putting it in her fertilizer so he was making HER actually kill her plants herself…And hiding their daughter’s toys, then lecturing her about “losing them” until she is sobbing?! He is psychotic. S2: No. I’m not your assistant, or even your employee. If I bring a coffee, it’s for myself.

  • Something I see all the time is victims worrying that they are breaking up a relationship or marriage over silly things. They feel like they need an act of violence to have a good reason to end a relationship. I hope people realize the moment you feel like you’re walking on egg shells in a relationship, it’s time to leave. Don’t wait for the “legit” reason. Just leave. People will call you crazy and say you’re overreacting but honestly safety is your priority.

  • story1: everyones so focused on the plants but what about his daughter?? purposely stealing and hiding her toys so he can get her in trouble?? imagine the mental torment the kid might feel over continuously getting accused of somethinh she isnt doing and getting introuble over it at risk of losing all the toys she loves

  • Regarding the first story. It reminds me of a similar story that I dont remember if you covered before mark. Long story short the op had been noticing her husband was acting a bit distant with their infant and things came to a boil when op noticed him pinching her son to upset him through the Nanny cam. Skipping over the details op found out her husband had cheated on her and became infatuated with an escort. And he was actually making plans to kill op and their infant so he and the escort (who had no idea mind you) could be together. So I would 100% not be surprised if the husband had been cheating and slowly working up the courage to do something to the op and daughter so he and his mistress could he together

  • And even if he was on the Spectrum or something that’s not a valid explanation or an excuse. That just means if he tries to kill Opie he won’t receive any actual punishment especially if they try to play on that angle. But I’d argue that if he’s competent enough to recite marriage vows he’s competent enough to get to stand trial.

  • Story 1 is crazy. The immediate character change after he was caught. Nuking his old life and moving on to the next girl. Something like that could’ve broken me at one point. I would’ve questioned the whole freaking relationship and how much of what he shared with me was true. How much of it was acting? Like once he was caught, it was like, “I’m bored with this game. Time for a new one.” What the actual f*ck 😬

  • In a book “how to deal with Narcissists” there was a narcissist who was infamous for accidentally breaking stuff. No one EVER suspected it was on purpose. Even though he always seemed to knock off the most important and expensive stuff, to the point that everyone hid their valuables every time he visited. My point being, he was SO GOOD at faking it that everyone still believed him to just be a klutz. Imagine, everyone in their circle hid their stuff when he came over and YET defended him when confronted. They’re that good. This is a thing they do, as if they’re programmed to do it, and they enjoy it. Keep your eyes open people!

  • Gotta love that he also ghosted ALL his friends after one of them called him out on his insane behavior. That basically said, “if you’re going to call me out and not let me be abusive then your out of my life.” I’m also not surprised that he wants to be rid of his parent rights because he can’t stand that he can’t abuse them and know that op will fight back.

  • I feel like she was in the lucky timeline where she caught his actions EXTREMELY early on and kicked him out safely and thank GOD she inherited that house. I hope he doesn’t get any sort of custody. He’s legit scary. What he did to his child and her toys that she took great care of is just plain evil.

  • This reminds me of a mom I used to babysit for. Her husband gradually changed like this because he had a brain tumor! Ofc she didn’t know at the time and once he got physical with the kids, that’s when she kicked him out. Even after his successful surgery some time later, she couldn’t fully trust him again, plus it wasn’t the happiest marriage anyway.

  • That last one reminds me of something that happened to me years ago. I used to do karate. One day I found a diamond ring in the parking lot. Needless to say, I turned it into the office. The person who lost the ring went in and asked about it. The guy in the office (the owner’s brother) gave it to her and asked for a reward. She thought he found it, so she gave it to him. Later on, she learned that I was actually the one who found it. She was horrified and said she was going to give me something as well. It never happened.

  • My nex husband ‘accidentally’ mowed over a mini rose bush my kids gave me for Mother’s Day one year. When we separated he pulled up the wisteria vine that I’d planted from a cutting off of my now deceased grandmother’s vine. He threw it under the house so that it wasn’t salvageable by the time I returned for items left behind.

  • S1: I’ve actually seen something like this before, with a neighbor friend’s brother during the pandemic. It started with poisoning the house plants, then the toiletries, then the food. The friend and her husband moved out of their basement apartment because her parents wouldn’t admit it was happening, because they were both pastors with a mega church, and didn’t “believe in” therapy or psychology. The dad, an otherwise healthy man, had become mysteriously ill and kept deteriorating until he was in a wheelchair. The brother eventually started messing with the neighbors, including us, and that is what finally got the authorities involved, I think. Turns out he was schizophrenic, and voices had been telling him to poison everything, because everyone was trying to poison him. Dad immediately got better.

  • He wants to hurt his wife and child. He doesn’t want a relationship with them anymore because he knows he won’t be able to hurt them. The only reason he started a relationship and had a child was so he could have access to people behind closed doors. Like the guy who poisoned his girlfriend with poisonous slugs, the girl who broke her boyfriends article games, the guy who destroyed his girlfriend’s art supplies, the guy who destroyed his girlfriend’s running gear, the guy who destroyed his girlfriend’s last gift from her dead sister, they have no other purpose other than hurting others. They are selfish and entitled. You can’t reason with them and get mercy from them, because they would have to care about you in the first place, and these kinds of people do not care about you. The only thing you can do is try to stay as far away from them as possible and hope they don’t escalate from harming you to eliminating you.

  • Any partner who kills or destroys things you loved is always a huge danger sign. Any partner who expresses jealousy over you spending any time or attention on other things, people, hobbies is a huge danger sign. This OP’s husband is an abuser just ramping up. I’m so glad she got away from him and got her daughter away from him.

  • Story 1: Holy Moses! I’m so glad OP got herself and her child out of there before anything happened to them! I’d bet you your favorite kind of donut that the douche bag of an ex-husband was working his way up to poisoning OP or their child! shivers Also, he probably ghosted all of his friends because there was no going back to how they used to see him once his proverbial mask slipped off! Story 2: I hope the owner fired that problematic interviewer. Labor laws are nothing to mess around with. Owner is lucky that all her got was a letter from a concerned former job seeker and not something from his state’s Department of Labor!

  • Before the update: Im reminded of my ex who had an affair with my best friend. I always had this feeling that he was extremely jealous of our closeness and since he was a narcissist, the only way for him to be happy was to unsert himself between us and have us fight over him. He was like that with most things. If i cried over somethign unrelated to him, he would become jealous and furious, but when i was crying over him, he was happy and at ease. It seemed like he didnt much care about my emotions, just that my emotions, happy or sad, were as a result of him. I get the same vibe from OP’s husband. He is killing the plants because they are OP’s connection to her sister and late mother. He is stealing the daugther’s toys because they were givign to her by OP and was therefore a mother/daughter thing. I may be completely wrong and just peojecting my own experiences, but it reallt just sounds to me like the classic narcissist’s jealousy and need for control. He kills the plants because they are a threat to his control and to him being the center of OP’s universe. She cannot have things outside of him. She cannot love others than him. She can only have plants if he decides she can have them and if he is the onw giving them to her. Its the same with the daughter’s toys. The fact that OP had the nerve to give the daugther the doll house is a threat to husband’s control so he is reclaiming the power by puniahing OP and daughter for them disobeying and betraying him. If he isnt God, he is under threat and he must restore balance to the universe.

  • Story 2: I used to be responsible for hiring staff for my department and can unequivocally state that I would have never accepted a coffee or any other form of “gift” from an interview candidate. I know it’s just a coffee, but it’s too close to being in bribe territory and therefore unethical. I would also think twice about consuming any beverage or food item gifted to me by a complete stranger unless it’s during Halloween and I’m trick or treating with my kids. Although, if the coffee wasn’t for the owner but for his lackey, how poorly are his employees paid if they have to ask strangers to buy them a coffee?

  • And one more thing: The missing dolls and doll furniture should’ve really seemed suspicious, because you play with dollhouses AT HOME, you don’t usually take them anywhere, so where could the missing items have gone?? They HAD to be somewhere in the house. And I’d bet money that the only place OP never looked for them is in his office. I’d bet that the daughter is not even allowed to go in there. There were signs of his craziness, they just weren’t that obvious until OP realized there was bleach in the plants.

  • omg. this is like a horror movie. This husband sounds like a pure SADIST. Sociopath/psychopath. Such absolute cruelty to his partner AND, even worse (though all equally bad) – his daughter, his own child!!! Orchestrating these situations to watch his wife and child suffer – it’s just… it’s so so dark. Haven’t finished listening, but I hope she gets away from him. Scary that people like this man run around free in our world, and he will hurt another woman/children like this, he will not stop.

  • One thing that’s very disturbing is the husband’s text that OP “needed to be taken down a peg.” That’s an expression that usually is used to describe someone who is arrogant, egotistical and self-important. It sounds as though the husband did not like OP being confident or standing up for herself and their daughter. So his solution was to destroy something that she cared about. I hate to think what he would’ve done if she decided not to have plants anymore. Would his next target be the daughter? He was already verbally abusive to her.

  • 1) WTH?! That is pathological. For him to do this, whatever his warped reason is creepy as hell and unconscionable. He is underhandedly harming something that matters to OP, being devious and hurtful. OP should not set up therapy, she should contact an attorney and kick him to the curb and change the locks. After edits: I am happy to hear OP has decided to contact and attorney and her husband is no longer welcome in her home. I am glad OP discovered the other underhanded, vile things he is doing, tormenting his own child. OMG! OP needs full custody without any visitation with their child and this demented, cruel and dangerous man. After update: I am happy that OP is safe now, it’s sad but good the police are involved. I’m glad he wants to give up custody and parental rights. I am not surprised the daughter is doing well now, therapy will help, but without him in her life she will be fine. I hope OP has told his parents what he was doing and the new girlfriend needs a warning. 2) Oh good grief, just no. I am happy to hear OP didn’t go along with this BS. Honestly, is there some governmental agency their bad behavior and illegal probing questions can be reported to. I’m glad OP notified the owner of the company about what happened. Interesting and not surprising it made the news. After update: This guy was so inappropriate and unprofessional. I’m glad OP got the job he wanted elsewhere. I enjoyed OP’s texts. It’s good the boss had a professional response to the info OP shared and will correct the problem.

  • Story 1: Sounds like the guy played his hand a little too fast. Like he has always been incredibly evil and was going to do tremendous harm to the women in his family, but he planned it badly. OP was not as dumb as he had hoped. Is the latest GF much younger? Or it’s medical – drinks, drugs or some kind of a nervous breakdown. Either way, both of them, OP and her kiddo, are now a lot wiser.

  • Story 1: He’s not only a narcissist he’s a full blown psychopath. He carried out a 6 month campaign of mental torture on both OP and his daughter, not to mention the physical violence once the mask came off. Could you imagine what the guy would have done to a pet if they’d gotten one? Would he have poisoned that too with bleach or worse rat poison? It doesn’t even bare thinking about!! Thank God OP and her daughter are far away from that monster.. 😥😥

  • My wife killed one of my plants “Tina” the XL Venus fly trap, however it was a complete accident, she picked up a dead fly from one of the chairs in the balcony and fed it too it. Thing is night before I had sprayed bug spray and that fly was more than likely a victim and it poisoned the plant. The good news is that I managed to save an offspring from Tina and it’s growing steadily, and of course wife was incredibly apologetic and she gave me extra cuddles.

  • I’m usually not involved with interviews anymore, unless is upper management for restaurants or my agricultural equipment store and my private school. I’m also involved with senior cybersecurity officers and senior programmers as well only thing I ever request is to be on time and be professional and if late have a genuine excuse.

  • Story 1: That guy sounds a lot like the kind of psychopath who feels genuine joy from being cruel to others just for the sake of it. Note that not all psychopaths are like that. Being unable to feel actual remorse isn’t always equal to an urge to actively hurt others. But this guy saw his wife and daughter getting joy from things he saw no point in and people who feel genuine joy from something outside of a psychopath’s control, are per definition a threat to said psychopath. Because if the psychopath doesn’t feel happy from something other people enjoy, the obvious solution to that problem is to do what’s possible to make sure that joy is ruined. That’s what’s called a sadist. I’m surprised this POS didn’t destroy the little girl’s toys too. There is absolutely no good reason what so ever to even consider letting that guy near anything or anyone dear to her ever again.

  • Back in the later 1700s there was this married pair of chemists who somehow broke the mold and Marie Lavoisier was referenced by her husband as being vital to his figuring out oxygen. Unfortunately owning the wrong stock was a bad idea in the messiest phases of the French Revolution. They put up statues of this dude within years of chopping off his head. Marie married a botanist whose name I’m not looking up, not because it’s too early and my body is a battlefield between cold viruses, antibodies and Benadryl (the reason the many handy sources from my history degree on with the dates of the French Revolution are all just a few too many steps away), but because he went “yeah no you now play the pianoforte and have tea and you have no recourse.” Her pouring boiling water over his rosebushes after he not only banned her from pursuing a field that she was one of the highest qualified people on the… parts of the planet that were um… Basically I’m saying that the Muslim areas that avoided the Dark Ages could have had peers for her. Within the places where the 3 labs working of figuring out oxygen and writing letters and papers on it she was 1 of the ones who could have further moved the science. I am personally aware of a single case in history where the crime against the person heating buckets of water over a fire and lugging them to give her tyrant of a lord and master a taste of losing his science stuff. When picking the rich to eat, be wiser than certain stages of previous revolutions.

  • 1. She got out in time, if he’s willing to poison plants he was eventually going to do to his wife and kid. He was being a jackass on purpose cause that was cowardly looking for a way out just to continue cheating with his side peice. She’s won a terrible abusive prize, hope it was worth it. 2. Good on him. They tried to make him a free errands/coffee boy.

  • Story 1: That is some sick behavior. Killing plants to knock you down a peg? Taking your daughters’ toys and then yelling at her for losing things? This is crazy. I’m glad OP followed the advice and did her research and discovered her husband’s sick game. Good riddance to hubby. Story 2: That is creepy. Sounds like OP dodged a major bullet. I think Simon would have made his life miserable.

  • Story 1: correction, OP’s STBX isn’t a narcissist, he is quite able to empathize. Rather he’s a sadistic sociopath, who uses empathy to understand what will hurt his victim the most, & feeling the pain they are in is what gives him the most satisfaction. I was in a similar marriage, but he got tired of me & left me for his coworker before it ever got physically abusive or kids. I already had cPTSD from my parents’ internalized ableism & emotional abuse thats so incredibly prevalent with family’s neurodivergent generational trauma. Hopefully the boomer-millenial/gen x-gen z is the end of the intergenerational ableism/abuse cycle.

  • In story 1, i believe that OPs husband was cheating and created 2 scenarios for OP to divorce him. Unfortunately, his scenarios became more diabolical when you put both together. The fact that he literally killed her plants made me think of an incentive to wanting to poison OP. Adding the fact that he took and hid his daughter’s toys from her doll house just so he could make her cry made him believe that he was powerful and could do this to anyone.

  • #2 would be a terrible employer. Having interviewed people in the past for all levels of jobs, if someone showed up with coffee in their hand because they just can’t leave home without it, I cut the interview short and sent them on their way. It’s inappropriate, and to ask a person who is interviewing to show up with coffee is bizarre. Asking the additional questions on her heritage is illegal in my country as well and a human rights case would be brought against them.

  • My husband has been killing my house plants with bleach. Sounds like my parents lol. After Edit: “i deserved to be knocked down a peg or two”?!? I’m sorry WHAT? I’m not a plant person & neither is my dad, mom REALLY is, but my dad wouldn’t purposefully bleach her plants. OPs hubby is scary especially considering how out of the blue that statement was. He’s taking his child’s toys & is GASLIGHTING her?!? This man’s INSANE! Divorce & full custody asap. After Update: Holy hell that escalated!! And not wanting custody… that’s a blessing. Dude put on a facade for so long that after the mask slipped he wanted nothing to do with her our their daughter.

  • This reminds me of that story where OP’s husband would move things around behind OP’s back. It’s a gross power play to fck with your partner like that. That’s all it is. It power play. They’re doing it for fcked up satisfaction. The fact he does similar to his daughter to make her cry is GROSS. ATU: JFC he better not come back

  • Ideas on what’s the deal with op’s soon to be ex husband. (Other than the mask slipping off) One, he’s undiagnosed bipolar schizophrenic, that would explain the dramatic sudden change in attitude and his actions towards others. Two, he recently developed a brain tumor that’s putting pressure on part of his brain, which would also explain the sudden behaviour change. (The reason why I put this out there is because the ex is also suddenly cutting off or distancing himself from his own friend group) Three, he was having a secret affair with the so called “new gf” and got so addicted to the experience that he started resenting his wife and child, (while also maybe feeling a little guilty about being a cheater) that he decided to destroy his own married life and was punishing them both for being the reason he couldn’t walk out in the open with his side piece… Either way, I hope he gets his a$$ handed to him.

  • In the first story made my blood boil. OP’s soon to be ex husband killed her plants intentionally and had no shame in it. But him doing domestic violence on his own wife really waved more red flags. I’m glad OP and her daughter got away from him. Second story? Who asks a candidate to bring a coffee for them for the interview and asking illegal questions to the said candidate? Sounds like this Simon guy wanted to make himself look better and OP a fool. But the owner of the company seemed like a good sport and probably making sure things don’t be that cringe now. But OP contacting the company owner was the best thing to do.

  • Story 2. I’m not saying I agree but I get where this is coming from. If I was in a foreign country and then saw someone from my own country (Ireland) applying, I probably would push their application up the line, so long as they fit the criteria. Don’t worry I am not in any position to hire people, this is purely an example. I wouldn’t ask for a drink now but I kinda get the whole “I just stuck my neck out, you totally owe me” kinda mentality. It is more the older gen who still think that way.

  • Story 2 – I actually wonder if Simon was sizing OP up for something besides the job, because they were supposedly from the same background. Maybe it is as simple as feeling obliged to help a fellow of his ethnic background, but wanted payback for doing so, in the form of the coffee. Whatever it is, the accusation of “unprofessionalism” is rich coming from him, given the illegal questions and coffee demand are unprofessional on his part.

  • “He didn’t really answer” That’s your answer. He killed your plants because he didn’t like them, maybe you “loved them more” than him, maybe he just hates plants or wants to hurt you. What if this was pets? Kids? Where does it stop? What won’t he kill if he doesn’t like it for no reason, you? Your family? There’s no excuse.

  • First story, why do I get the strong impression that the unnamed thing hems punishing his wife and daughter for is being women. I usually don’t jump to misogyny first thing, but for some reason this gives me a strong vibe that it is the proverbial elephant in the room, that he’s looking for ways to punish them for being women and won’t say it out loud because deep down he knows that an irrational thing to punish a person for, especially his own wife and daughter, so instead he invents reasons by stealing his daughters toys and telling himself it her fault for not keeping a better eye on them, or just vaguely insisting his wife need to be taken down a peg for no particular reason.

  • S1 – I was hoping the issue with the husband may have to do with a serious disease affecting his brain (e.g. tumor, schizophrenia) as it could cause abrupt changes in personality. But after reading her description of walking on eggshells, berating the daughter for losing toys, when he purposely took a couple at a time until he had a drawer-full is telling in that this wasn’t an abrupt change. The violence that he showed was his authority over his family became threatened. In his mind, the his is to submit to him in all things as the controlling superior. My question would be if he was brought up in a fundamental religion or has become religious as fundamental religions stress the dominance of the man, and his wife is to be submissive to his will and the daughter purpose is solely to cement relationships with another family and only with his permission.

  • God he is so abusive. You now have to ask what else has he been doing for years. He hurt his own kid by stealing her toys so he can make her cry. Have he been doing worse and op didnt see because he stage it or gaslighted her. God the fear of poison them with medicine to make then sick so he can play hero.

  • Sorry, but just the fact that the husband can’t communicate face-to-face tells me he’s not good husband material. Marriage is a partnership and good communication is ESSENTIAL. This man cannot interact on a human level. It’s a shame that OP had a child with him because I’m damn sure he doesn’t consider the daughter a living being separate from himself. She’s a possession, and so is OP. Divorce is absolutely the best solution, as well as VERY limited interaction with the daughter.

  • Yeah there’s something wrong with him alright … he’s bitter about living in a house in yr and yr family’s name … hence he KILLS the plant yr sister gifted you … he also cruelly emotionally abuses yr young daughter and deliberately destroys items that are precious to you … he’s a very dangerous coward!

  • Hey you yes you, take a deep breath let it out slowly, and lower your shoulders. Know that you are important to someone even if you feel like no one loves you, guess what I do. I’m so proud of you being here. Thank you. Now make sure you take care of yourself and drink some water, eat something and take a stretch break.💜💜🤗🤗💜💜🤗🤗

  • I thought this was going to be some stupid “I googled how to get rid of gnats” or to clean the water cause he came across how to clean well water and used it on the tap water and hes just kinda dumb or the AI bot on Google now was giving bad advise but then it turned into child abuse and I was unprepared to say the least.

  • years ago my brother was growing a pot plant in our back yard by the woods. the previous winter the house behind us had gotten robbed and there were cops all over the woods between our houses. I decided the pot plant needed to go because pot was illegal back then and if another robbery happened the cops would find the plant. so I watered it with bleach. my brother never figured out why the pot plant died
