camp wapsie. i love that place with all my heart and would not be the person i am today without it. this is the song we all sing as we part. we sing this on friday after the camp dance. i will never forget how it feels, the misquotes in the background, everyone’s raspy voice singing this cherished song behind their tears, seeing your friends face in the glow of the fire, and the hugs you give your friends just before you part, you hug with all your might because just in that week they grew closer to you than anyone and now you have to part not knowing when you’ll see each other again. there’s also a tradition we hold at this sacred fire. just before we gather around the ring, we gather sticks and wish on them. out director then puts the ashes from all of the other fires, these ashes hold all of the wishes of every other member that got to experience the wapsie magic. we then throw these sticks into the fire. they are collected so that our wishes never die. this is the wish stick fire. i love it🥺
lyrics part 2: A dream is something all your own to keep within your heart To build on when you’re sad, or when you’re world’s been torn apart A dream is something all your own that no one else can steal A dream is something you can make come real Chorus You can share a laugh with any stranger you may meet You can share your money with a beggar on the street But you can only share a dream when love has set it free Please won’t you share yours with me. Chorus thanks for sharing!
We sing this at the camp my mom and I go to (she used to be a camper and counselor there, now I go there). It’s pretty similar, but the words are a bit different, and the melody is a bit off from the way we sing it. We call it the Gypsy song because that’s how it was brought to camp…..people took a trip somewhere and a gypsy taught it to them, and they brought it back to camp. I absolutely love it!!
I had never heard this camp song before, but I love it! I found lyrics, looks like it’s actually called “Dreams” Dreams Chorus: May all of your dreams bloom like daisies in the sun May you always have stars in your eyes May you not stop running not until your race is run And may you always have blue skies
I was present when the recording was made. It was song on a cassette tape that was made at a Girl Scout camp to share some favorite camp songs to keep the songs going. It was recorded with a unit of girls who were at summer camp in a unit that summer that focused on Songs. Several staff alumni came out to sing the songs for the recording that day as well. There was also a little booklet to go with the tape with the song lyrics so it could be used for girl scout sing-a-longs. Apparently this was not an okay thing to do because it violated song copyright laws. The tape was made with good intentions and no one meant any harm, so distribution of it was ceased after being informed that distributing it was illegal. However apparently someone who had a copy must have posted it on the internet because …. here is is on youtube!
I vaguely remember a girl I made friends with at camp back in 2017. I don’t know her name anymore. I can only remember her always pulling the strings off my hat off and we laughed about it. Had a good time, went home. I was excited to go back next year but never ended up seeing her again. This song reminds me of her
I didn’t think this song would be on YouTube, but I searched it and I’m so glad I did When I was growing up I had camp, camp felt more like home to me than my real home ever did, I met so many sweet people, very few I keep in contact with still. But I can vividly picture every time camp was coming to an end, singing this song while the sky was dark and the camp fire was just about to be put out on the last night. I can remember all the other campers who wouldn’t be coming back crying I never did get to say goodbye to camp, Covid hit and I wasn’t able to do my last couple years there although I wished I could. It’s silly to say these memories will stay with me for a lifetime but they will, there were so many games, stupid little jokes and amazing times I had there, I can still picture the whole layout with my eyes closed, I’m a better person because I was signed up for camp all those years ago. So I wanna thank every councillor, CIT, and any staff that made those years of my life so incredible This is goodnight but not goodbye 💛
So when I went to girl scout camp, from first year brownie to first year cadette, it was tradition to sing this song on the last night we were there, and we would leave the next morning. We would put our arms over each others shoulders, and sway side to side gently. Every single time, I cried. As the unemotional girl. Crying. Then when we got back to our cabins I would always climb into my bed, hide under the blanket I always had, and cry more. I never fully knew the lyrics to the song, so i would always just repeat the first two verses. I will always miss you camp tall trees.
This song makes me cry even more than it used too as it was the last song I sang at camp in 2019. I haven’t been able to go back because of covid. And when I do go back, it will be as a counselor, if I had known that it would be the last time I’d ever be a camper there I would have made so many more memories.
I learned this song at my girl scout camp I remember on final camp fire sitting next to my best friend from that week laying my head on their shoulder holding their hand singing this and crying and I remember when we got back to our cabbins that night to comfort me they told me that they loved me and I miss them so much still.. Thank you Thank you so much Python.
So, this year at Camp Small Valley, my girl scout camp, I made six amazing friends! Minus my cousin. But they sing this song every year on the last night. I burst into tears and cried so much harder than any other year I had been. And this year, the other girls and my friends got into a huge fight. It really made us closer. My cousin never cried at camp before, this year she did. Back in our tent, she sobbed quietly. I feel like crying.
When I was at a camp this year, I was really misbehaving and my really calm camp counsellor Sam didn’t get mad at me, she pulled out her notebook and sang hmm I wanna linger. Something about the song, the tune, made me cry. I cried all night, and ever since the song has made me cry and I will never forget it.
awh i just got home from my 3rd year at camp, we always sing this song, except theres a part that says mhmm when some september mhmm we’ll all remember mhmm all the goodtimes and friendships true, i love camp and this song makes me cry because its like our goodbye song that we all sing, i broke into tears this year because it stormed out the campfire and we had to do it, literally right before we had to get on the busses
They closed my favorite camp this year. My last memory is hearing them sing this song and crying. I won’t get to see All my favorite counselors. I relate to them so much. I cry even more to this song because the camp closed down. I wish it re-opened. It was my first time going to the camp last year and I thought I would go back there every year, but they closed it and I’m sad about that😔
I want to linger, ooo~ A little longer, ooo~ A little longer here with you~ Ooooooo~ It’s such a perfect night, ooo~ It doesn’t seem quite right, ooo~ That it should be my last with you~ Oooooo~ An come September, ooo~ I will remember, ooo~ My camping days and friendships, too~ Oooooo~ And as the year go by, ooo~ I’ll think of you inside, ooo~ It was goodnight and not goodbye~ Oooooo~
mmhmm I want to linger mmhmm a little longer mmhmm a little longer here with you mmhmm its such a perfect night mmhmm I doesn’t seem quite right mmhmm that this should be my last with you mmhmm and as the years go by mmhmm I’ll think of you and sigh this is goodnight and not goodbye mmhmm I want to linger Mmhmm a little longer Mmhmm a little longer here with you just incase the lyrics were to slow
The recording I had didn’t include that verse. But trust me, I also always sing it and everyone forgets it. Just because a song is missing a part does not mean it’s wrong. There are many many variations to campfire songs depending on where you learned the song. You’re also not living up to the Scouting law very well by calling yourself a REAL girl scout. We are both sisters in the Guiding/Scouting tradition. We are both Scouts/Guides. We just come from different parts of the world.
I remember we always sing this at camp Alexo during our last campfire before leaving the next day at noon. We changed the lyrics to sound more sincere and happy. Which went mmhm I want to linger mmhm a little longer mmhm a little longer here with you, my friends mmhm it’s such a perfect night mmhm it doesn’t seem quite right mmhm that it should be my last with you, my friends mmhm and come September mmhm I will remember mmhm our camping days and friendships too, my friends mmhm and as the years go by mmhm I think of you inside mmhm this is goodnight and not goodbye my friends
OK so my friends and I were walking in the woods and one of them was singing this song and it sounds demonic..I’ve never heard it before, she went to camp and she’s heard it. and I begin to take a article and some large tall four-legged thing jumped out of the woods at us and this song will forever be terrifying to me. sadly i don’t have it on article 🙁
The first and so far only time I’ve gone to a summer camp was a Girl Scouts camp for horseback riding. I expected everyone to be weirded out by me being a trans guy (for anyone who doesn’t know, Girl Scouts allows AFAB girls, AMAB girls, non-binary people, and AFAB boys. Boy Scouts as far as I’m aware only allows AMAB boys). Instead I was greeted by everyone immediately asking for my pronouns and preferred name and two of the other campers were nonbinary. At the end of camp we all sung this song and the counselors gave me a little ribbon with all the names of the horses I had ridden written on it and I just started sobbing.
mmm i want 2 linger, mmm a little longer, mmm i want to linger here with u,my friend. mmm its such a perfect night, mmm & all the stars r brite, mmm this is my final night with u, my friend. mmm thsn comes september, mmm i will remember, mmm thee camping nights i shared with u, my friend. mmm & as the yearz go by,mmm ill think of u inside, mmm this is goodnight & noy goodbye. ×2……thats how morland is :)))
