‘I was wrong’: Woman sentenced for driving into man, killing him at Spring Grove Kroger A woman who prosecutors say was in a jealous rage last year when she drove into a man as he walked toward a Kroger entrance, killing him, apologized to his family as a judge sentenced her to 18 years in prison. “I will live in regret every day, knowing someone innocent lost their life because of a poor decision I made,” Taah’viya Chapman, 24, wrote in a letter to Christopher Scott Griffith’s family. “There’s nothing I can say to justify my behavior, but simply, I was wrong.” Chapman, of Avondale, pleaded guilty Thursday in Hamilton County Common Pleas Court to involuntary manslaughter and felonious assault. Judge Melba Marsh sentenced her to 18 years in prison. The incident happened in front of the Spring Grove Village Kroger on Aug. 31, 2022 and was captured on surveillance article. According to prosecutors, Chapman, who was driving a van, was trying to drive into Jawon Lunsford, the father of her then-8-month-old child. Chapman had dropped off Lunsford at the store, and while he was inside, prosecutors say, she searched his cellphone. She apparently believed Lunsford was in a relationship with her sister. After Lunsford walked out of the store, grocery bags in hand, Chapman sped toward him. Lunsford tried to jump out of the way but was struck. Chapman then struck Griffith, 58, who was several feet away and was walking toward the store’s entrance, using a cane. Lunsford suffered a broken leg.

That’s a black woman running over her man because she’s angry. That’s what they do these days. I have seen this several times where I live. Black women believe it’s ok to treat their men like they are street curbs. They will even leave their man laying in the street to die with no guilt. The woman who I witnessed doing this to her man was angry because her man didn’t get off work in time enough to take her to get her hair and fingernails painted. She missed her hair appointment . So she ran over him with the car. He was in the hospital for 6 weeks due to his ribs being broken away from his sternum. Whenever he had to move his ribs would pop away from his sternum and his chest would swell up making it hard for him to breathe. The Dr.’s would have to pop his ribs back in place. if he sneezed or coughed he had to grab a pillow and hold it pushed up against his chest. One of his lungs was colasped also. He had to blow really hard into this little device they gave him that had a plastic ball in it for as long as he could endure the pain. Another reason he had to breathe into that plastic air machine was to keep his lungs from filling with mucus and catch phenomena. He would lay on his back as still as he possibly could with tears running down the side of of his face. He didn’t want to talk because he had to take deeper breaths to speak words which weren’t worth the pain to him. That didn’t include the broken arm he suffered either. She is waiting on her court date to see what will happen to her.

This is horrible and tragic but I want to address the fact she was in shock. Betrayal trauma often causes violence. She is in a car with her BABY and discovers her person and her sibling are both betraying her. We all see the tragic results but are ignoring WHY. Do not read this as an excuse, a dismissal or a justification in any way. Violence is inexcusable, the consequences were beyond horrific. My point is that a tremendous amount of domestic violence, severe mental health disorders and suicide are happening due to betrayal trauma.
