In this Learn and Grow video, Tony’s Tractor Adventure discusses building a row cover and greenhouse using only PVC pipe and PVC fittings. With simple tools and a few hours on a weekend, anyone can build a simple greenhouse cheaply and easily. To build a PVC greenhouse, you’ll need PVC pipe and elbow. A DIY moveable PVC greenhouse is another option for extending the growing season.
To build a PVC greenhouse, follow local building codes, define the greenhouse needed, acquire the proper PVC pipes, conduct measurements, and follow local building codes. A PVC mini greenhouse is another cheap, quick, and dirty way to build structures with PVC pipe, fittings, and a covering. Very few tools are needed, and even glue is not required.
To create a PVC mini greenhouse, make three 40-foot pieces of PVC by gluing together pairs of 20-foot pipes using PVC joint compound. Center a 40-foot pipe down the underside of the series of arches to form a cover. Sketch the design with four 3/4 PVC 90-degree elbows, one 3/4 PVC Pipe, one PEX pipe, and garden mesh netting.
In this blog post, Tony walks through the entire process of building a DIY PVC greenhouse from start to finish. First, dig down to the pipe, then dig enough room around the pipe to fit your choice of PVC-cutting tool. Finally, cut the PVC with a PVC-cutting tool.
