How To Take Care Of A Curcuma Plant?

Curcuma, a member of the ginger family, is easy to grow indoors and outdoors. It thrives in warm, humid environments with ample sunlight, and prefers moist but well-draining soil with a slightly acidic pH and temperatures between 68-95 degrees Fahrenheit (20°-35 degrees Celsius). To ensure its survival, curcuma plants should be kept wet in full sun, especially in hot climes. If soil is prone to drying up, cultivate curcuma.

When dormant, keep the soil moderately moist to prevent curcuma from drying out while it is actively growing. Water the plant once weekly, gently clean loose soil from the tubers, and let them dry in a warm, sunny place for a day or so. Store the tubers in a container with proper care.

Improper lighting can damage curcuma plants, so water them well once a week from spring to summer. If there’s scorching weather, check the soil’s moisture level from time to time. If planted in the ground, curcuma does best in moist, well-drained soil rich in organic matter. If soil has a lot of sand, choose a light, sunny spot with a minimum temperature of 18 ºC, keep damp, apply fertilizer once a week, and remove dead heads of flowers.

In summer, water the plant every 2-3 days as the soil dries, and by autumn, watering is reduced, and in winter, they are ready to bloom. Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is a valued spice, and learning how to grow turmeric plants in your garden or pots is essential for their survival.
