How To Set Just Braided Hair With Water?

To create a waterfall braid, submerge a clean towel in boiling water and remove it carefully. Let it cool down before placing it over your scalp and braids. Allow the towel to dry before taking off and letting your hair dry. This process should take no more than 15 minutes and can be done right after getting your hair braided or anytime your hair needs a refresh.

To moisturize your braids, use hair tea or leave-in conditioner to dampen the hair first. For thick or layered hair, use water or leave-in conditioner to make it easier to work with. In this tutorial, you will learn how to waterfall braid your own hair, using tools and products like hair tea.

To create a cascading waterfall braid with curls, follow the step-by-step tutorial, which includes crossing the bottom strand over and into the middle. If you’re going for a half up half down hairstyle, repeat steps 1-9 on the other side of the head. Begin the waterfall braid by crossing the top piece over the middle piece and then the bottom piece over the middle piece. Cross the top piece over the middle piece again, adding in curls.

For a final step, submerge the ends of the hair in hot water. This is the crucial, final step of braiding hair called “dipping”. Hot water setting only works with some synthetic braids because they soften when exposed to heat. Heat water and pour it in a jug, then use a microfiber towel to wrap around your braids and secure it with a hair tie before showering.

  • I appreciate you posting this! My daughter (mixed) is now asked me for some box braids. I’ve learned how to braid her hair over time but now this is a new skillI need to learn♥️ Much respect to all the African-American and black women out there as I now see that maintaining hair is 100% different than maintaining my own. It’s a process that I’m here for so my child can learn to do her own hair one day with confidence!

  • I know you posted this article a while ago but let me just say….. you are my hero!! My daughter is mixed and wants to mix up her hair styles, specifically box braids. I have felt AWFUL because I know NOTHING about mixed hair, or any hair texture that isn’t mine. When I found a place who can actually do this style hair (I’m in Oregon), they wanted to charge me $350-$400. Sooooo, I’m just teaching myself! I tried box braids and it went fairly well the first time, I used the rubber and method and would just prefer to not. But her poor ends were all sorts of our and all over the place!!! This article is a god send. So thank you!! I’m learning all the time 🙂

  • I am doing my daughters hair tomorrow… and even though “hiding the color” isn’t an issue for what we are doing… I am so glad I clicked this article anyway… this is hands down the best explanation of how to start and knotless braid out there… so much more simple and easy to understand then other articles I’ve watched!!!!! 🙏🏼 Thank you soooooooo much for making this… there were so many details that were super helpful… even if your not looking to achieve “hiding” the natural hair color… 🖤💜🖤💜🖤 Just beautifully simple, understandable, efficient.

  • Oh my gosh thank you so much for this! I don’t know how the idea for this never crossed my mind but thank the braid gods for you and your mind. Haha my birthday is coming and I am in love with this light grayish iridescent rainbow unicorn hair I saw but my natural hair is so dark it would not do that hair justice!! I’m scared but excited at the same time to try this. Thank you so much!🥰😊

  • This is awesome, I was doing viking braids for myself in freshman year…(similar to box braids) I’m from Wales. And I’m caucasian, its educating to me to see people that look middle age and are trying to learn. Now that gives me confidence from thinking about my teen years what I was and am capable of doing..
