How To Preserve Daisy Seeds?

Growing Shasta daisy flowers from seeds is a simple and cost-effective way to add color to your garden. To direct sow, find an area with suitable soil conditions and gather the seeds from open-pollinated heirlooms. Daisy seeds can last up to three years if stored correctly.

To harvest seeds, gently tug the flower head until it comes off its stem and collect the fluffy, feather-like seed heads in a paper bag or container. Label and date paper envelopes to keep track of the seeds and their age.

Propagating Shasta daisies follows the same processes as many other perennial plants, and you can use any of the three primary methods: saving and sowing seeds, rooting stem cuttings, or dividing the adult plant into new divisions. To plant the seeds, remove the seeds from the flower head by rubbing them with your thumb until they fall off.

You can use any of the three primary methods: saving and sowing seeds, rooting stem cuttings, or dividing the adult plant into new divisions. Cut the whole head off and spread them on a screen to dry for a week or two. Then, rub the seeds out of the heads.

The beautiful Shasta daisy is as easy to collect seeds from as the Rudbeckia. All you need to do is wait for a flower to die and dry on the plant, cut the stem at the base of the plant, and enclose the seed head end in a paper bag, secured with string. Hang the paper bag upside down to ensure proper storage.
