Calathea Freddie is a tropical perennial plant native to the tropical rainforests of South America, known for its striped leaves that fold at night. It requires bright but indirect light to grow and thrives in most climates. To care for this plant, water it every week or so, letting the soil dry in between. The plant prefers a well-draining potting soil or mix, including compost, pine bark, coco coir, worm castings, and perlite.
Calathea Freddie needs 0.8 cups of water every 9 days when it doesn’t get direct sunlight and is potted in a 5.0″ pot. It thrives in medium to bright indirect light, but can tolerate low light. To maintain its health, it is recommended to water the plant when the top 25 of the soil is dry.
The plant is moderately easy to care for, but requires consistent moisture and humidity to thrive. To raise the humidity around the plant, place a humidifier nearby or put it on a humidifier tray. Repotting the plant every year or two in the spring or early in the summer is also essential.
In summary, Calathea Freddie is a popular indoor plant that requires the right lighting, soil, and temperature conditions to thrive. It is a tropical perennial with striped leaves that fold at night and requires bright but indirect light to grow. Proper care and repotting are crucial for maintaining the plant’s health and happiness.

I did some research online and I think my calathea ornata has spider mites. thee are tiny white eggs on the underside of the leaves and fine webbing where the stem meets the leaf. do you have any tips on how to fight off these pesky spider mites without damaging my sensitive plant? thank you so much for the last advice I really appreciate it.
Hi Sunita, my freddie has yellow leaves but only in the first half of the leaves tips. Is this bcause of too much water or too little light? The soil is moist abt 7 or 8 on moisture meter in the middle of the pot but moisture meter reads 3 around the surface. Its sitting in my kitchen facing abt 6 feet away from north east facing light source. Ive got abt 11 leaves turning yellow. I use distilled water and mist everyday. What do you think?
