Daisies, a member of the Asteraceae plant family, are a popular perennial plant that can be grown in early spring. They require well-draining soil, sunlight, and moderately fertile soil. To ensure their blooms, water them weekly, deadhead blooms, support them with stakes, prune them, add mulch, and divide them. Experts recommend giving daisies 1 to 2 inches of water at the base of the plant each week during the growing season, and switching to every few weeks.
Shasta daisies, which are tough and tolerant, prefer well-drained soil and require full sun. Plant them 1 to 2 feet apart, depending on the variety. They thrive in moist conditions, but are sensitive to soggy soil and overwatering. Daisies prefer rich fast-draining soil, plenty of water, and ample sunshine. They should be planted in full sun to light shade in well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Good soil drainage is especially important in winter.
To maintain healthy roots, water and mulch the plants annually, stake tall-growing varieties in spring, and remove faded flower stems during summer.
