How To Maintain A Water-Based Snake Plant?

Snake plants can be grown in water through leaf cuttings from an existing plant, which takes 2-3 months until the roots become healthy and strong. After roots are formed, you can safely transplant your snake plant from soil to water and take proper care of it. Growing houseplants in water is also known as hydroponic farming or hydro-culture. Propagated Snake Plants and leaf cuttings from the Snake Plant can thrive in water if you are mindful of constant plant care and maintenance.

Snake plants don’t need much water, just water whenever the soil is dry. Make sure to let the water drain away fully and not let the plant sit in water as this may cause the roots to rot. Snake plants need very little water in winter and should be fed once a month from April to September. To grow snake plants hydroponically, choose a sturdy glass vase or pot without drainage holes. Snake plants love well-draining soil, but avoid compact soil because it will hold more moisture and could lead to root rot.

To water your snake plant, only water fortnightly, allowing its soil to completely dry out between waterings to prevent overwatering and root rot. Snake plants can tolerate low light but thrive in indirect, bright light. Avoid direct sunlight for extended periods, as it may scorch the leaves. Water your snake plant every two weeks, making sure that its soil is completely dried out before watering it. Snake plants prefer to dry out between waterings and should be watered thoroughly when the soil is dry, typically every 2-6 weeks, depending on humidity.
