During the flowering stage of cannabis cultivation, plants typically need more water than during the seedling stage. Watering should be done when the top inch of soil is dry, which can be every 2-3 days. The best way to water cannabis is to check the soil for dryness and adjust the water accordingly.
Proper watering is crucial to keep marijuana plants healthy and prevent nutrient shortages or plant illness. To ensure proper watering, choose a container carefully and only shower plants when they use most of the medium’s available water. Overwatering and underwatering damage the roots, so adjust the watering schedule accordingly.
Maintaining a consistently moist environment without saturating the growing medium is essential. Light, frequent watering is recommended, and experts recommend watering plants with lights off if possible to avoid faster loss of water. A good soak means watering the medium to 25-33 of the pot capacity, providing the root system with all its needs.
Watering is the most repeated chore when growing cannabis, and it is important to give plants water with low mineral concentrations (osmosis water is ideal). Watering should be done every 2 or 3 days during flowering, ensuring 10-20 of water comes out from the pot as runoff.
Overwatering is common and should be avoided by lifting the pot to feel its weight. Watering should be done evenly, but not “sopping wet”. Fine tune your watering based on environmental conditions, growth phase, and growing stages. Bottled spring water is the most favorable choice for watering cannabis plants, but ordinary tap water can also be used.

Over the last year I have struggled with the veg stage. Watering can be tough, but I have to agree, water only when the plants ask for it. It’s better to underwater than overwater. It takes less than 6 hours for a plant to get the water back into the leaves, while it can take weeks for a pot to dry out… cheers and happy growin!
Solid article and advice. I struggled with water the first couple of grows, fell into the overwatering category. Plus I didn’t realize know how much the soil I was running held water. Funny thing is, with 5 gallon fabric pots the amount you recommended is the exact amount I use that’s spot on! Good stuff.
So excited for this Year ! Just placed two more of my ilgm beans spouted and growing nicely. That’s great but my new Mar Hydro ts 3000 is arriving tomorrow. Got an awesome price for the Holiday sales. It’s going to light my 3×3 tent UP FOR SURE. Thank for keeping it real and looking forward to this new year.
That’s great info! I still screw up on my veg plants since they are at different stages in a continuous grow, I usually under water something and they have to bounce back. Not optimal I know, and just used my 1st dose of recharge on everything in veg. It took me a while to get Discord to take my info and let me in, but I’m trying to be there for you bro! I’m kinda tech challenged!
I called up a few of my friends that have recently picked up the hobby and said Hey y’all got to check this kid out. And take notes ” and yes, I actually phoned them bc we’re old school like that 😂 So be prepared for some golden girls 😂 Golden Grower Girls..hah. RIP Betty White But for real, they’ll listen to you -you’re a great teacher. Plus it gives me a break 😂
one of the things I started doing was to use a sprayer to add the first 16oz of water seems to allow the soil to take up the water better and if you top dress like I do it works the stuff in. Here is what I wonder about all the time so you are mixing say 1/2 tsp of recharge in a gallon of water. How much of the recharge (or any other amendment) water do I add to a 5 gal container?? I added 2 cups of the recharge water after spraying about 16ozs plain water on the soil ends up being around 32oz per 5 gal container. My plants suck that up every other day when they get up to size. Wish I was on a total top dress program to keep watering and feeding separate
hey man love wot you doing Awesome content Im 2 years into it and have had everything happen your stuff is so reinforcing its only now im understanding nutrients were all looking for that perfect recipe but it takes a bit of time and i love your delivery you say how it is like you say man every body at different levels its cool to be able to go back to stuff as it becomes more relevant so cheers man
Hahaha real good stuff, I tend to use way less water than most myself and try not to have any runoff because I do run dry amendments so I do take it easy lol, trying not to create mistakes down the road but this run is looking stout for real at 19 days in and I do have you to thank. You have definitely saved me years of trial and error brosef 🤜🤛
Hey 420 scene love your work! Wanted to say thanks for your help you have sound and logical explanations andadvise. 1st time inside grow, homemade tent, mars T1000 love it. really close to harvest 2 girls from ancient seeds 😂 all from medical. All organic not a single problem ( small tip burns and very few fungus Nats working on drying soils between watering, your tips have kept my girls on track. Lot’s to learn first time around. But I’ve gotta green thumb so that helps. Tight buds enough colas for my first time (nothing to write home about but relatively happy) thanks for your guidance, great job keep up the good work BRO, in remembrance of my brother FISH ON!
Been recently having trouble watering my plants. Moved some to plastic pots for the first time, and it seems no matter how long I let them dry, or how much I water, they always tend to start drooping, and taking on a “taco” shape. I always hear people say water until runoff, but is that the case throughout the plants entire lifespan, or just when it’s old enough or “big” enough to handle a complete soak. My plants are currently around week 4-5, still in veg. I usually flip around this time, but they’ve been so stressed. I’ve tried less waterings, less water in general, and complete drying cycles. They are in 2 gallon pots btw, in 707 soil.
3:25 While I agree that until you’re experienced and accomplished, you should feed with a very conservative approach so you don’t overfeed and burn your ladies, I do not believe the nute companies don’t care about your grow. Using their products and then having an entire grow burn and die could never be considered “good” or even “who cares?” for their business. You yourself must be acutely aware of the power of Word of Mouth. If my buds said to me, “Dude, don’t do it. I went with that brand and lost my grow.”, I would avoid that brand like the plague. Just like everybody else. Every supplier not only has a vesting interest in your success, they’d love nothing more than to be able to brag about the feedback from their successful customers. Just a dose of reality fer ya. Peace out and yeah, thanks, I’ve learned a great deal from you and other accomplished growers and content providers. You’ve all helped me avoid a lot of trial&error pain and wasted time/effort/money.
Hey Britney.. 420 mentioned that u pass along comments. Can u please pass mine. The vid he did with Chong was awesome. If he’s willing to do a second episode, can he reach out to a YouTuber called Grassinclass. The style and tell it like it is way of 420 is Genuine and matches the flow of Grassinclass. Long message but worth it to me.
Hi bro I need your advice badly I have overwatered my plant on Tuesday by Wednesday night I thought it looked a bit funny yesterday I noticed the leaves curling like the claw I’m 5 weeks into flower there in fabric pots and I don’t want to transplant them again unsure what’s best to do tomorrow I will put a towel underneath them to absorb any water in grow bag poke about 4 or 6 holes down to bottom and place a fan on the grow bag all day tomorrow they are sleeping right now I hope that will work if I can get them looking right again defo not gonna over feed again and thoughts anyone would be greatly appreciated thanks hope your all ok out there peace
Thank you for sharing all your articles I do like every article and I’ve also listened more than once during my grow it has helped a ton! I love all you nice humans out here who share content that’s sure to help a serious grower out tremendously! 👍🏼🙏🏼like me! THANK YOU!!!💚 P.S. I’ve done foliar sprays and used spring water with molasses and I’m telling ya these plants loved it! And I’ve added peppermint essentials oil for pest management works great!
Big fan. This is my first indoor grow. Had 2 outdoor the last 2 seasons. First didnt mature enough before frost as I’m in rural canada. And second molded out a week before harvest late October this year lol. Figured I’d try inside so i can actually harvest lol. Gonna try the impossible. Have 1 autoflower ak47 by 34st seed co. And then 3 Photos. Pure bred lion by indicanada who is defunct I think, site is up but dead. Wedding cake by crg pahrma and a fruity pebbles cereal cut. The fruity pebbles is a week or into flower in my 2x2x4 grow tent and t others are in my 1x1x2 grow cabinet that I fitted out myself lol. Super ghetto with it. Not doing a typical grow, wanna do some micro grows, gonna do only like 2 weeks or so of veg, maybe 2 then flower them lol. My dad has had awesome results 5his way, and gives less time for me to fuck up haha
Question regarding root growth, fabric pots and ‘watering radius’. Im using fabric pots and the ‘outside radius’ of the soil dries out much faster than ‘internal radius’. Is it an issue regarding root growth, as ‘root seeks for water during dry period’? And also if ‘air can prune the root’, I would think that this pattern (outside drying way faster then inside) could be a potential restriction to roots development. I know it sounds like micro manage, but is it worth watering only the ‘outside radius’ every other watering during veg? I mean, 1 ‘full watering’ -> 1 ‘only outside watering’, keeping in mind that you water only as the plants needs and you are either using the right pot size for plants size or watering at the ‘right radius’ if planting at the final pot since seedling. Ps: Im using 50% peat 50% perlite. Its like a soiless medium.
What are your thoughts on watering less volume at one time but more frequently, my plants only receive 1 liter every other day in 15gal pots filled with ocean forest and perlite mix 🤔 im in las vegas its really hot out here and im worried im underwatering but if i try to water more and less frequent my plants don’t respond well
I have a question as well. Hope you’re gonna see it. My humidity level is at 65% but my moist meter shows that soil is dry. I know she gets a lot of water from the humidity so my question is, shall I listen to the moist meter and give her some water or I better wait 1,2 days more? She doesn’t look to me that she needs water even though the moist meter shows “dry”
My plug been on his 9th grow, newish?, And he said what he does is water slowly until water runs out drain holes on bottom of a 3 gallon plastic pot, and he waters every 7 days to 5 days when closer to harvest. Seems ok? Or bad advise? I’ve been watering like he advised and I’m 12 days away from harvest/drying.
I bought photos but one of the plants began growing the V pistols as of last week. I’m really upset about it because I wasn’t ready for flower yet. She’s only about 16″. Growing in 7 gal pots. Should I begin watering every 4 days? I’ve been treating her like her sisters whom are still in veg. It’s been 6 days since her last watering.
I Started using the advance nutrients trio but I’m so confused and kinda wish I would of tried something else because it says to use all 3 nutes through veg and flower both the same. That makes no sense. It shouldn’t need the Same amount of nitrogen in flower. Has anyone else Wondered this or have any input
