The produced sunflower biodiesel had an acid number of 0.2 mg KOH/g, which was below the standard limit.

This study characterizes the fuel properties of biodiesel produced from refined sunflower oil and waste cooking oil using two different catalysts (NaOH and KOH) to provide a comprehensive analysis. The process resulted in a 96.2 biodiesel yield with a heating value of 41.6 MJ/kg, corresponding to 84 kg biodiesel per ton of sunflower crop and 108.8 L. To produce 1,000 kg of sunflower oil, 3,920 kg of sunflower seeds were required with an energy input of 156.0 million kcal. Sunflower oil is one of the options for biodiesel production at a large scale depending on its mass cultivation.

Don’t have a diesel car yet but really like to know these type of things love organic chemistry so this seems to be a must for later in life. Before this article started i thought to my self the woman will show me the right way to do this because the guy in the last article just…. women usually go the extra mile to do things proper so thinks again for the knowledge.

  • can be quick yes, if the used oil isn’t too degraded and dirty. However for most modern diesel engines, im sure you’d want to syphon off the good stuff after at least a couple of times ‘washing’. Older diesels are a bit more forgiving, especially the ones built before the new-clean (low sulphur) diesel standards took effect.

  • filtration can be used agro film which is used to protect plants from frost it is the cheapest filter. The film comes in 17g; 30g; For 50g / M2 thickness standards, density can be selected or a double layer can be used. It is possible to filter not only during fuel production but also before filling into the fuel tank.

  • You have 2L of Methanol + 70g KOH, and 3 Gal of used oil (12L).. so you have 16% methanol-KOH solution. Any difference in engine combustion power if we’ll use 2L Methanol +50g KOH and 10L used oil?Also, you’re not going to wash it?   • Very interesting article. As this method has gained traction over recent years aquiring used vegetable oil can be an expensive business, it’s certainly not free. Also this ‘fuel’ would wreck a modern diesel (common rail) in no time at all. However if you have an older diesel it would be fine, from a financial perspective you are better off buying diesel from the pump.

  • diesel here is $1.70-$2.15AUD per litre, methanol is $4.30-$8AUD per litre so to make 1 liter it’ll cost $0.86 to $1.60. I think I did that right 80% oil to 20% methanol. its only about half price if I get the 200L methanol and oil for free. I saw a article of someone using pork gelatin to clean oil then mix whats left with 10-50% paraffin/kerosene and thats it. I tried 15L batch and messed up tho.

  • Is this woman me???? I literally thought of doing the same exact thing as her: Taking a red 2000’s new beetle, putting a diesel engine in it, and making my own biodiesel! I wanna see if I turn my beetle into a hybrid diesel car, somehow installing electric things and swapping the gas engine for a modified B100 diesel engine. Anyways I wanted to replace all the parts of a scrapped beetle with new interchangeable parts, as that thing is gonna have 100,000 miles on it and I want it to last forever and function as a new car. “Mileage” on odometer don’t matter, as I ain’t ever ever gonna sell that thing.

  • Yes, he made biodisel, all correct … but the soap? There is a reason if the biodiesel is washed in the end, and that is to remove the soap, glycerin and alcohol residues. Using it as it is will create operating holes and the mileage will be lower. At least one wash is necessary to remove the bulk of the impurities

  • That is very dangerous to work with lye in those sandals with exposed feet & no proper face protection. One little splash is very corrosive to skin & burns if come in contact. Also the fumes that you cannot see but the lungs still do inhale are no good to you either 😏 But otherwise thanks for the information in the clip. From what I understood from other clips that one can only do this with the older diesel cars & not the newer models. I don’t know though from what year are considered the new models.

  • I thought about making Biodiesel then I realized how much glycerine you get as a byproduct and gave up on the idea. If you have a big farm it wouldn’t be a problem could just use it on your roads to keep the dust down. I live in the city so they would be upset with me dumping glycerine on their roads.

  • The are limits on the amounts of fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) that can be blended into petroleum diesel of 7% in Europe and 5% in the United States. Using 100% FAME risks damaging the car even if it has been made perfectly which seems unlikely with this home process. When biodiesel is made industrially there is multi-step purification process and a long list of specifications that have to be adhered to.
