A bare-root peony division is a section of rooted crown with several dark red growth buds called eyes, each giving rise to a stem in the spring. The more eyes a division has, the fuller the plant will appear. If possible, look for a division that has at least 3 to 5 eyes. The term “bare root” refers to a plant offered for sale with its roots exposed, rather than planted in a container with soil. This is common when ordering from mail-order retailers or nurseries and big box stores.
Planting bare root peonies can seem daunting at first, but it is a straightforward process that yields stunning results. From preparing the soil to giving your peonies the right care, this guide will walk you through the process step by step. Peonies are grown successfully in USDA Growing Zones 3-8 for garden peonies and zones 4-8 for tree peonies.
Ponies are fully hardy and do not require frost protection. They grow in borders or 12-14″ and should be planted outside in autumn or spring when they are supplied. Bare root peonies have thick, fleshy roots and are cut off the stems. They can be ordered from late autumn and should be planted as soon as they arrive between October and March.
Bare root peonies produce flowers in almost every color known, except blue, and come back to delight you year after year. Follow this helpful guide to ensure healthy growth for years to come.

Why is the Maxima peony root that I bought from VanZyverdyn that has growth buds on it just sitting in the pot of soil I put it in to sprout not growing at all and not doing anything at all but sitting there for over a month? It is NOT burried deeply but it does NOTHING under grow lights for 8 hours. The growth buds just sit there, no green shoots have formed.
Hi, 💐💐🦮🦮🦮🐕🦺🐕🦺May I share the most important news you will ever hear? God the Father sent His holy Son Jesus Christ(Y’shua Ha’ Mashiach) from heaven to earth, to be born of a virgin. He grew up and died on the cross for our sins. He was put into a tomb for 3 days, and then Abba Father raised Jesus to life and He appeared to people and went back to Heaven. We must all sincerely receive Jesus to be a true child of God. It says in John 1:12 “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.” Will you genuinely believe on Christ Jesus and truly receive Him today, before it is too late?
