Ffxiv: Is Botany Retainer Worth It?

In Final Fantasy 14, retainers are essential for expanding inventory, storing loot, and even making a profit. They are user-friendly and can be used for gathering, mining, botany, and battle classes. For gathering, either a miner or botanist is suitable, but the fisher retainer is not very valuable as its items aren’t very valuable. If you have two retainers, go miner first, then botanist, then fisher/dow. Quick Ventures are always a good bet, as they often turn around items worth thousands and can be turned into valuable items.

Upgrading your gathering retainers gear is beneficial, but it doesn’t have to go out of your way as long as you reach level 50. If your botanist is level 50, change your retainer to a botanist and level that to 50. Combat retainers will acquire monster parts, Miners and Botanists will acquire items from nodes, and Fishers can acquire fish naturally. Two combat retainers is fine, but if you have real doubts and also took up botany, make them miner, botanist, and combat-of-choice. Square Enix offers leveling boosts for retainers, but they’re relatively easy to level on their own and worth the grind.

In summary, retainers are essential for expanding inventory, storing loot, and making a profit in Final Fantasy 14. Prioritizing hires like miner, botanist, battle class, and fisher can help you maximize their benefits. Leveling up your retainers is beneficial, but it doesn’t have to be a significant effort.

Is it worth getting more retainers in FFXIV?

The provision of additional retainers allows for the expansion of storage space and the acquisition of a greater number of items simultaneously through Ventures. A minimum of two additional retainers is required to accommodate a single retainer of each type, thereby enabling the collection of all available materials and all varieties of Venture-exclusive minions. The advantage of having additional retainers is contingent upon the extent of storage, the efficiency with which they are utilized, and the time saved in comparison to the default configuration.

What class should a retainer be in FFXIV?

To maximize crafting items, choose a combat retainer and gathering retainer that are not Fisher, as they are likely to level up yourself. Fisher is useful for rare items and exclusive Minions, but less useful for crafters. If you decide to pay for the Retainer Service, distribute class selections based on the number of retainers hired: 3 Combat, 1 Miner, 1 Botanist, 1 Miner OR Botanist, 1 Fisher.

What retainer should I charge?

A retainer fee depends on the professional’s industry and their compensation expectations. It should be close to their hourly rate multiplied by the hours they expect to work. Retainer fees can be calculated by estimating the hours needed to complete or maintain the project and multiplying it by their hourly rate. Some professionals may charge an amount per expected service. Lawyer retainer fees in the United States can range from hundreds to thousands of dollars depending on the specific project.

What are the best uses for Gil Ffxiv?

Final Fantasy XIV is a massively multiplayer role-playing game that allows players to create their own characters, explore the world, and interact with others. The game features a unique class/job system that allows players to develop their characters in unique ways. Gil, or gold, is the standard currency used in the game, which can be acquired through quests and monster drops. Gil allows players to buy weapons, mounts, houses, potions, food, and vendor armor, which helps keep a character healthy and combat ready. Buying Gil on the Marketplace is a great way to boost a character’s level and power, craft gear, purchase weapons, and mounts, and improve their skill set.

Gil is essential for all players to acquire equipment and weapons needed for their adventures, teleport faster, and access certain parts of the world more easily. Farming gil in Final Fantasy XIV involves completing quests and killing monsters, which are easy to complete and provide a good amount of gil. Dungeons and raids are quick missions that require a team to kill multiple monsters and gain XP, gil, and other rewards. However, these methods are time-consuming and often difficult to execute, so many players opt for buying gil instead of farming it themselves.

What is the best retainer combo?

The Golden Combination is a recommended method for maintaining a healthy smile. It involves using a fixed retainer and a clear retainer every night, preventing relapse and ensuring a healthy smile. If you’re in the Bournemouth, Poole, or Dorset area and need new retainers after braces, Dr. Gareth Edwards, a qualified dentist with an interest in orthodontics and aesthetic dentistry, can help.

What retainer lasts the longest?

Essix retainers last from six months to a few years, while Hawley retainers typically last five to ten years. Invisalign offers Vivera retainers, customized to each patient’s bite, sold through a subscription service. These retainers are similar to Essix but are more durable. It’s recommended to have a dental professional check them regularly to ensure your smile is always “retained”.

Which retainer is more effective?

Both plastic and metal retainers have been demonstrated to be effective in protecting the results of orthodontic care. Metal retainers are more durable but cost slightly more, while plastic retainers are simple to replace, comfortable, and nearly invisible. The optimal choice is contingent upon individual preference and correct usage.

Are retainers worth it?

A permanent retainer is recommended by dentists or orthodontists for several reasons, including not following guidelines for regular retainers and the risk of teeth moving back if not worn. Permanent retainers are placed on the bottom teeth, while removable retainers are used for top teeth. Some dentists are now using both types to improve long-term results. The benefits of a permanent retainer include not losing it, not needing to take it off regularly, and being resistant to damage. It is also important to note that some dentists are now requiring people to wear both removable and permanent retainers to improve long-term results.

In the context of Final Fantasy XIV, alchemists represent the pinnacle of crafting expertise, utilizing sophisticated instruments such as alembics and mortars to synthesize a diverse array of potions, elixirs, wands, books, and other items. To advance in level, it is recommended that low and mid-level alchemists select Ul’dah, while mid-level alchemists should choose Foundation, and end-game alchemists should opt for The Crystarium. There are also Levequests that provide an opportunity to gather the requisite materials and experience.

  • I…knew about it I guess? Well I sent my retainers on quick ventures like all the time, but I didn’t even notice that you can still do that with lvl1 gear equipment. I gear them up every now and then but mostly they run around in this ugly lvl 5 gear sets. Some of them are already 80, some not. We’re still getting there. But now I’ll strip them again so they can go out and venture in regular work clothing 😏 that looks so much better anyways

  • Super. I only have 1 retainer, a blm, for ages now. A second one should be a gatherer i guess, but i only have botanist lvl 50 or something… I don’t have the time or interest to lvl it more… So i guess my retainer can only go to lvl 50 too right? But you mentioned lvl’ing gatherer without ever have to gather?! Yes plz

  • I wholeheartedly believe that SquareEnix should give us a third retainer accessible (possibly through a level 80 quest) due to the amount of weapons and items we have accumulated through the years. It doesn’t make sense to expand the game but not give us the extra space to hold on to all the things we accumulated. Thats one of my small gripes for XIV.

  • I actually like to overcut on my prices by 1gil, and I tend to sell faster that way. I assume because people assume I was undercut and buy my item to stick it to the undercutter. Doesn’t tend to work for higher priced items, that’s more based on where it’s being sold, so I sell my more expensive items in the reduced cities anyway. “Quick ventures are fun because you never know what you’re going to get” Fish… It’s always fish… Unless you use a Fisher retainer, then it’s dye – cuz that makes a ton of sense.

  • Retainers gear level requirements as of 5.3 to get the best items are to my knowledge 1746 gathering for Fishing, 2183 for Mining/Botony, and I believe ilvl 428 for Combat Retainers. Having your retainers at these breakpoints means that sending them on quick explorations they are far more likely to come back with valuable things like rank 8 materia, etc.

  • if you’re leveling retainers, 3 hourly ventures is more xp on a targeted harvest (not the quick ventures) than the 18hr ones. So if you’ll be able to send them out 3 times in a given play session, opt for that. If you have paid for extra retainers, any alts you have will also have those extra retainer spaces available if they have retainers unlocked.

  • Confession time! So been playing this game for quite awhile. Watch zepla’s stream from time to time and always scratched my head and wondered “how do you get ventures”? This article came up on my recommended and I watched….oh finish “an ill conceived venture” …..the quest that has been waiting for me to finish for years and I ignored.

  • Good content for new folks to know, nice work Zepla 🙂 Something I started doing a long time ago to help keep me organized on retainers is storing certain “types” of things on certain retainers – i.e., ingredients on one, ores/metals/stone on one, wood/cloth/leather on one, etc. If you have only the default 2 retainers that are provided for free by the game, organization probably isn’t too much of an issue, but if you “rent” more from MogStation (and/or have digital hoarding tendencies which may or may not be a problem from which I suffer…), I find this is a good way to keep organized on what is tucked away where and not have multiple stacks of the same thing split between multiple retainers. That’s probably more of an intermediate tip than what you’ve covered in this article, but I wanted to add a comment with it in case it could benefit anyone who sees it 🙂

  • Good sources of currency for ventures: Blue carnival weeklies (though I spend mine on teleport tickets). Dungeons – roll greed on everything you can and turn it in to your GC. If you are new and really low on ventures run dungeons with your Squad or Trust and turn all that loot in too. And when you are walking by a Fate, do it for the seals.

  • Thanks for the article! When I started playing FFXIV a little over a year ago, it felt like all the guides I’d find were several years old. I’ve never had the confidence to make content like this so I really appreciate this content coming up on YouTube more often, now. With that said, does anyone have any idea how retainers scale in terms of gear? I’m pretty sure job level = how much of an item a retainer can bring back, but is there a breaking point for their item level and how rare of loot they can bring back from ventures? Does gear item level effect their yield on gathering/hunting? Does having materia in their gear have any effect at all? Questions I’ve tried to Google to no avail since I started.

  • Here I am coming in, just wanting to know about retainers. So far almost halfway through, I learned how to expand my inventory (which ive been curious as to how to do it for God knows how long) and that I can compare prices from one click instead of me looking at the Marketboard and writing it down or opening an excel sheet lol.

  • For some reason people don’t know this, so I’m going to share it to you all. When you purchase extra retainers they are available to your account, meaning you have extra retainers per character on said account. I have 4 in total (2 normal + 2 paid). I love playing as healer and I like doing dungeon daily multiple times a day. I get a lot of armor/gear I can trade for ventures and send retainer multiple time a day to get stuff for me. I also created 6 other characters all healer (shhh! I’m not addicted) and I do the same doing dungeons and trading armor/venture. Then when I have enough money I sell a garbage item on my main account for like 100,000 and buy it on my alt. I know it sounds like a lot of work, lvling alts, doing main quest story line, getting decent armor, lvling retainer job, etc etc but in 1 hour i can do daily dungeons on every alt, send my retainer to work on every single character and after 1 week or 2 collect 200,000 per character only if sales are going well also, I get to play as Healer every time ( I told you I’m not addicted xD) I only do the lvling dugeon under lvl 50 since i have not completed ARR story line on every one of them and I’m not planning to xD just my 2 cents. Thanks you for the article.

  • Oopsiedoopsie… And here I went to level 52 and had not used the retainers at all, after I watched a article on how to make money without crafting, coincidentally made by you, I started thinking. Those retainers, they might be useful! And here I am waiting for a few hours to finish and hop on Final Fantasy and getting at least one of them. Thanks Zepla!

  • first two retainers should be combat(preferably a copy of the starting job for new players) believe me or not, I rather send a retainer out for random mob drops than rely on rng extra gear from quests and dungeons can be given to retainers to accelerate process i made a guide-ish on this, the more combat retainers you have the better, but do have at least 1 of each great article as always, zepla

  • I didn’t realize you could just change your retainer to any of the post-ARR Jobs. My first Retainer is a Summoner but I would much rather have her be something I actually play rather than just the first one I leveled. Thank you. My other 3 retainers are all Gathers – one per class. And I do Quick Explorations nearly always because there is always the chance they will bring back Black or White Dye.

  • Don’t tell me that I can get more retainers! I should have Less! Good grief! 😆 Thanks for the advice on the taxes. I didn’t realise there are areas where the tax may be lower. Then again, I didn’t know you can travel between servers inside the worlds. Example? On the world Chaos, I can travel between Cerberus and Ragnarok for example. In other servers you can find better prices on the Market Boards! 😃 Thank you for the article. Stay safe. ❤️

  • I am new to FFXIV and have found your articles extremely helpful. thank you so much for making them. I just cleared ARR as a level 51 Dragoon. I have NEVER used a retainer as I had no idea what they did. Now that I see they can hunt down mats for me I will certainly be using them more often. I am curious though… can they bring back High Quality Items from nodes?

  • I’m a new player, and just last night I heard about retainers and was wondering what they are. Today I check your website and boom, retainer article. Thank you very much. Do you have links to useful resources of information? I’d like to learn more about retainers and their jobs. Can I change their jobs later? If I choose a combat job, does the job I choose matter for what they bring back? Will different roles matter? Or do they all bring back the same stuff and all that matters is they share the same class I do? Is there a recommended distribution for Gil making when picking classes? Thanks.

  • I have basically all my money on my retainer. I know it’s pointless, but it just feels right to me…. While a few hundred million gil wouldn’t make much of a difference considering how much stuff we can fit in our pockets, like an entire city if we wanted to, it just, for some unknown reason, doesn’t feel right to me to carry it all on person. Maybe I’m just weird.

  • Having to pay real money monthly fee for extra retainers is the #1 irritant I have on this game. It should either be a one time IRL charge or payable with Gil. I assume some people pay more for retainers than their actual subscription! That’s just stupid. SE seems to be very stingy with their game memory for players. Between retainer fees, limited glamor dresser slots, and lack of housing.

  • Retainers are by far superior to any other mmo banking equivalent, weget the option of personalized waifus and husbandos… with personalitiesto match, i love howi randomly picked a personality for her and one of my retainers basically became a first class bunny eared tsundere. (Keep forgetting the race’s name)

  • Everything you should know about retainers: They’re garbage and can’t store enough items so you’re forced to pay more per month for at LEAST one extra. They say it’s from the original version of the game so it can’t be changed, but I guarantee they could put a bank box down somewhere and let us use it like every other mmo, just greedy. Square invented a problem and then sold us the solution.

  • I like FFXIV. Now, that said! Being able to buy storage space as well as more auction listings with real money is probably its biggest black mark stain on its reputation I think imo. In a subscription based game there should be no gameplay affecting purchases like this, and it’s shameful that they show allow for retainers to be purchased. Overall still a good game! But this specific aspect leaves a real foul taste in my mouth.
