Do Orchids Have Year-Round Blooms?

Orchid blooms last from six to ten weeks, depending on the type of orchid and its care. They typically bloom at least every 8-12 months, but some species, such as Phalaenopsis orchids or moth orchids, bloom more frequently. The bloom cycle typically lasts for several weeks to a few months, depending on the species.

Orchids can bloom multiple times per year, or successively, with many Phalaenopsis and Psychopsis being in bloom nearly year-round. To maintain bloom, increase sunlight, pot the orchid in the right material, water it regularly, and expose it to sunlight. Some varieties, like Vanda orchids, bloom 2-3 times a year, with flowers lasting up to 6 weeks.

Orchids can be made to bloom again by feeding them. The growth cycle of orchids can vary, with some blooming multiple times per year and others reblooming almost year-round. A happy, healthy orchid usually reblooms every 8 to 12 months, but some may flower again in the same season.

A natural orchid cycle typically sees leaf growth in summer and early fall, a bloom spike in late fall or early winter, and then blooming in spring. If cared for properly, orchids are not an annual plant, living for many years and flowering each blooming season. Most orchids bloom one to two times per year, with blooms lasting anywhere from 7 days to 120 days or more.
