The greenhouse structure in ARK: Survival Evolved is a crucial component of the building system. It is made of Crystal, Cementing Paste, and Metal Ingots and is designed to be open to the sky. The greenhouse panels check for non-greenhouse structures or terrain or objects directly above them for X distance. If the cave base is high enough, the greenhouse can be placed in vacuum compartments. However, there must be visible sky above the crop plots inside the greenhouse.
Greenhouses do not work in caves, but they can be built in caves if the greenhouse structure is made of Crystal, Cementing Paste, and Metal Ingots. Building non-greenhouse ceilings above the greenhouse will cancel the greenhouse effect. Creatures standing on crop plots also cancel the greenhouse effect.
In a water cave, a 4×4 greenhouse with no greenhouse effect is built, but the greenhouse effect is 0.0. This could be due to the lack of sunlight or the use of tek light as a greenhouse effect. Plants can grow off of element fuel from tek generators.
In conclusion, building a greenhouse in a cave requires careful consideration of the greenhouse structure, the presence of visible sky, and the presence of tek light.

I love underwater bases. We had on on Lost Island. We had 4 ocean platforms connected by bridges and protected by ss glass walls that went deep down into the ocean. The thing was huge. Like 300 by 300 meters and 50 or more meters deep. We breed mosas, dunkleosteus, megalodons, pleisiosaurs and Tusotuthis there. Somehow eels always spawned inside our base, even though it was covered from all sides by walls or vacuum compartments. We had a underwater living compartment below the breeding area.
Back when ASE was still a thing, I used to build a huge underwater base and since I was on a rp server I made it like a Marine research base. Problem was, I wanted an Elevator going from the top of the ocean all the way down into the base. And everytime I tried it would just get flooded lol I’m gonna have to try and do another tek underwater base. Just gotta find the right location.
I did build a huge underwater base in ARK SE in a private server….it was fun, but looked messy, becuse you can’t hide those hatchframes….was breeding rhinos, gigas, sharks, deinos, mantis, rock drakes…basically I was just breeding there, but looked cool….now it is insanely easy to build that 😛
I always loved building in underwater with the moonpools. I’ve actually been grinding away to hopefully unlock tek moonpools soon on the server I play on. It was easy to farm element on Fjordur so it made for creating moonpools simple later on. I love how they revamped this, and am looking forward more than ever to build another underwater base
I’m a PvE player… due to my work schedule being 13 hour days and not being able to devote the required time to PvP. This definitely piques my interest though… as it opens up a lot of beach areas that were hard to build on. Connecting them to the land to allow for easier access, for both your PC and tames, will be interesting though.
Ive lived in hard underwater for over a year in small tribes with 3 turret wall, moved to ice cave + easy underwater later and alos had it for over a year. No tek gen is nice, but beside that building underwater wasnt that bad. Do not put this randomly underwater unless you want to lose your loot. Build 1 of the 2 underwater cave or a pearl cave its muuuuuuuch safer
I built an underwater skyscraper on The Island in ASE from seabed to surface. In God Mode, it took me over a month because I had to redo the “laboratory” by building a 2nd sub building on the sea bed. I went through each floor and built rooms and furnished them. Each floor has only 3 rooms with the floors at the bottom having more. The skyscraper serves as a hub for my cryrofridges. I have to have maybe 50 floors? Felt like 100 Mainly, it’s full of bedrooms (even though I play on single-player) and other rooms. A school A war room A few bathrooms for show A Home Depot A Menards A security office A jail A few barracks Immigration (cuz role play) Immigration Barracks A cafeteria Nursery Hangar (to put the tek ATVs) And more… It was… SUCH a pain… I had to line it all up with a metal ocean platform, too. It’s so the ocean platform lets me build a floor or two above the water like the skyscraper is peeking out of the waves. I used moon pool modules for easy access to floors and hella metal elevators… AND WITH THE GAME CRASHING EVERY 2 MINUTES! I deserve an award man…
