Are Hibiscus And Orchids In The Same Family?

The hibiscus family includes various plants such as Hibiscus acetosella, Hibiscus brackenridgei, Hibiscus cannabinus, Hibiscus coccineus, and Hibiscus trionum. These plants have unique features and are part of the Mallow plant family, which is a subcategory of the broad Malvaceae category of plants. The Malvaceae plant family contains 75 genera, while the Orchidaceae, or Orchidaceae, is the largest flowering plant family on earth with about 28,000 species.

Hibiscus is a diverse and vibrant genus of plants, celebrated for its stunning array of species that range from tropical splendors to resilient, hardy shrubs. It is a versatile choice for gardeners and plant lovers, growing well in wet, swampy areas and tolerating a range of soils. Hibiscus flowers add a splash of bright, tropical color to yards, patios, and containers.

The seven taxonomic categories for plants include domain, kingdom, division, order, family, genus, and species. The genus is quite large, comprising several hundred species native to warm subtropical and tropical regions around the world. The scientific name of this tropical hibiscus is Hibiscus rosa-sinensis, a member of the Mallow or Malvaceae family.

Orchids also have a waxy tube-like structure known as a column, a fusion of the plants’ male and female organs. Hibiscus is another highly considerate plant with the same common and scientific names, such as Hollyhock (Althea rosea) and China rose (Hibiscus Rosa-sinensis). Both belong to the same family, the Mallow family, which includes many important plants.
