An Odd Flower Garden?

A Garden of Strange Flowers is a collection of music, albums, songs, and music videos that explore the world’s most interesting plants to grow in your garden. The album, written between 2008-2012, brings together the atmospheres and dark symbolism of fairytales and myths old and new. Released in 2020, it features the voices of Laura Intably-Keebaugh and Calum Charles Davidson. The album explores the names, shapes, colors, habitats, and pollinators of various flowers, such as the corpse flower, bird of paradise, and bat plant.

The blog also highlights 15 rare flowers that will make your garden stand out with their unusual shapes, colors, and patterns. It also discusses the care requirements, zones, and other aspects of these flowers. Nature has provided our planet with an incredible diversity of flora, from the largest individual flower to the most ancient living fossils.

In addition to the music, A Garden of Strange Flowers offers a photo gallery of some of the most unusual trees, strangest plants, and most interesting flowers. The album is available on Apple Music and features a variety of music videos and releases. The blog concludes by highlighting the importance of understanding the unique stories behind each flower, from peculiar swaddling babies to the fragnant chocolate orchid.

  • I have #9 (Lobster head), #10 (Torch ginger), #12 (Passion flower) & #14 (Queen of the night) growing in our garden. Torch ginger just showed up on it’s own. We have no idea how it came to be. Maybe some bird’s dropping brought it here. Idk. Our Queen of the night plant is almost two decades old now and it’s been giving out heavenly smelling night blooms for all these years. This month there had been 31 blooms on a single night. So special!

  • Lady slippers are something that I used to see somewhat commonly on vacations 20-30 yrs ago in the Appalachian mountains in NC and VA. I didn’t know they were orchids, nor did I know they were so rare and prized. They would be just off the trails with fiddlehead ferns, bleeding hearts, and lily of the valley. Lily of the valley is still my personal favorite, and my birth month flower. I love how wonderful it smells. I know it wasn’t in the article, but it was in the thumbnail.

  • For Number 6 ( 12:12 ), in Malaysia we called them ‘Bunga Kantan’/Torch Ginger very well known in the making of local dishes such as Laksa Penang, Singgang Asam Pedas, also my mother always make seafood fried rice with this flower and many more. Its generate very good taste and smell for your food. Try some! You won’t be regret mate😄

  • I have seen wild versions of the lady’s slipper orchid, however, the one I found was in the Montana woods up in the mountains. The one I found was small, only about 2 maybe 3 inches tall, with a tiny flower at top in a wonderful display of white on violate on fuchsia colors. The flower was no bigger than maybe a single pea. It smelled so wonderfully sweet with a light kind of spice after hint. that I smelled it out before I found it. Around it were Paint Brush varieties, wild Thimble berry plants YUM!!, some Black Eyed Susan’s, and those weird awesome single stock red bell flowers.. BTW Paint Brush flowers do stain a light ting of the color, but seriously do NOT eat them… the smell lied to me and it was a big let down for taste. Not so sure if it could have made me sick like nightshade or violet seeds…. oops >> (Ok mom I know, don’t go eating random flowers you don’t fully know.. regardless how they smell!)

  • I bet given that the world’s smallest flowers are so rare, they might cost a major fortune to own. Like if you can successfully get your hands on that tiny flower, you could theoretically sell it for maybe half a million dollars. Based on its rarity alone… Given that rarity, and hard to to bread is the 2 major reasons why some organisms are SOOO expensive to begin with.

  • We have a Night Blooming Cereus aka the Night Cypress aka the Queen of the Night. My 40 year old sister received it when she was in middle school. It has been kept inside all these years and is very well established. We have multiple blooms within a year and occasionally 2 at the same time. I can always tell the night they bloom due to the sickly sweet fragrance they produce.

  • I saw a strelitzia once in Spain and I felt like I was the only one who noticed it.I stopped and looked at the beauty for some minutes and took pictures of it,but my mom told me to stop looking at a “stupid flower”.A few days later she came up to me with her phone in her hand, showed me a picture of this flower and said “Look at this flower, beautiful isn’t it?”.Sad how so many people don’t notice beautiful things in real life, but only on social media 🙁

  • The night blooming cereus is known as Wijaya Kusuma in Indonesia is also a kind of succulent that doesn’t need too much watering only when the soil felt dry tou should water it often. Easy to regrow by cutting the stem around 5 cm, activate the stem using plant activator, when the root appears, transfer it to soil

  • We have a night blooming cereus except ours is known as a night cyprus aka the queen of the night. We have had it since my 40 year old sister was in middle school so it’s well established. Sometimes we get multiple blooms a year and if lucky we get 2 at a time. They are only open for a few hours at night and give off an extremely sweet smell. I can always tell when they bloom due to the smell. They are very pretty.

  • The nocturnal flower is actually a Dragon Fruit flower. One of these had been sitting around in my house for more than 10 years and I had no idea. But guess what, Two years ago in June 2020 we had a very first blooming from that cactus tree. My sister noticed the big flower first and was freaked out and called me to check it out. All of us had been on the edge because of corona virus and I had reading a ton fictions, so yeah I thought it might be some kind of carnivorous plant for the really unusual shape. Curse my stupid brain for that but either ways we called our whole family over to see the flower and then we found out it is actually a Dragon Fruit flower. And one and half month after we got to taste the fruit. The fruit is quite expensive if you want buy it from the market since there is only few cultivation spots of dragon fruit in India. But either ways The flower is very beautiful and emits a sweet smell.

  • I was taught what it says on Wikipedia: The “Passion” in “passion flower” refers to the passion of Jesus in Christian theology. In the 15th and 16th centuries, Spanish Christian missionaries adopted the unique physical structures of this plant, particularly the numbers of its various flower parts, as symbols of the last days of Jesus and especially his crucifixion: Blue passion flower (P. caerulea) showing most elements of the Christian symbolism The pointed tips of the leaves were taken to represent the Holy Lance. The tendrils represent the whips used in the flagellation of Christ. The ten petals and sepals represent the ten faithful apostles (excluding St. Peter the denier and Judas Iscariot the betrayer). The flower’s radial filaments, which can number more than a hundred and vary from flower to flower, represent the crown of thorns. The chalice-shaped ovary with its receptacle represents the Holy Grail. The 3 stigmas represent 3 nails and the 5 anthers below them 5 hammers or 5 wounds (four by the nails and one by the lance). The blue and white colors of many species’ flowers represent Heaven and Purity. In addition, the flower keeps open three days, symbolising the three years’ ministry. This makes me wonder if whatever else is said in the clip is true.

  • 12:49 (the karo people from north sumatra call this plant species….) then proceeds to show the karo tribe of ethiopia🤦🤦 bro, north sumatra is located in indonesia, which means they are south east asians, which also means they just look like typical filipinos, not like some black african tribe, they are different kind of karo, not directly related to us duh 😌

  • Passionflowers are called “Passion” flowers (Latin name, Passiflora) because Roman Catholic priests of the late 1500s named them for the Passion (suffering and death) of Jesus Christ. The flower’s stigma has three parts, representing the Trinity. The flower’s five anthers represent the day of Pentacost. The flower’s deep purple and white corona filaments represnt the purity and royalty of Jesus Christ, as they unfurl, to form what symbolizes the crown of thorns that Jesus wore on the day of His death. The ten petals represent the 10 Apostles who neither denied nor betrayed Jesus on the day of his crucifixion. Not because as the article says, “They are one of the most romantic-looking groups of plants.” Please do your research before narrating articles.

  • I live in the Appalachian mountains in NC- We used to have about 25 pink lady slippers that bloomed in the woods around our property- they were considered a protected species because of the VERY UNIQUE forest floor medium in which they can grow- if it is disturbed- they will forever be gone from that area. We always respected them as the gift they were to us. We were always told they could not be replanted.

  • I had an udumbara flower actually sprout on one of the tomatoes in my garden a few summers ago. I found it by accident well checking for ripe tomatoes and brought the tomato inside. Its very pretty and it astounded all the people i showed it too. I actually kept it for a few weeks. Down to taking the piece of skin off hte tomato and saving it in a tray till it finally vanished. My research spoke of a diet who is said to enter are world and where they enter the flowers will sprout up.

  • I once had a snakes head in my garden grow naturally. Never appeared again though. Here in germany we often call it “Schachbrett Tulpe”, meaning: “Chess-board tulip. My Maypop plant bloomed twice and it was beautiful but then it died due to the weather T.T. After perusal this article i feel kinda special about the region i live in (middle of germany). The lady’s slipper orchid (–> “Frauenschuh) is actually pretty common in the forests around my valley :D. Didn’t know it was very special!

  • Flame Lilly, Tropical Sundew, Bee Orchid, Jade Vine, Lithrops, Lobster Claw, Torch Ginger, Maypop Passion Flower, Night blooming cereus, Lady Slippers. Am greatful to see these flowers in Sri Lanka. sundew, jade vine and lady slippers have grown in the botanical gardens. The rest can find everywhere in the country. even in the home gardens. torch ginger, passion fruit and night blooming cereus are having a very nice smell. I can still remember how I waited to see the blooming of a cereus flower. It usually blooms after 11.30 p.m night, smells charming😔

  • I do not intend to say this collection of unique flowers is not made up of pretty flowers BUT i missed Cannabis as it is not just one of the most unique, diverse, beautiful flower that has already been known to help humans in various ways since 3500bC and u can pesch right off asking if im under the influence of said flowering herb as i most definetivly am <3

  • 9:08 “dear Mr plant, I love you more than words can describe. It’s only been 5 hours since I last saw you and I miss you already. I wish I could crawl inside you and wear you like a suit. That would be nice I think. Love, Argos” That’s concerning but alright I’ll take it- (they are so cute what the flip)

  • i love this series so much, i’ve been a fan of the mr plant series for almost 2 years now! i was also here when the gardening with argos series started, this has been my longest lasting hyperfixation and i love it! XD edit : i joined the fandom march 5th of i think 2021/2022, idk i’m not good with years and stuff lol

  • The eye flower got me thinking, can Argos’s extra eyes blink or are they just there as an evolutionary tactic to ward-off predators (like how butterflies can look like they have eyes on their wings)? Are they functional? And are they everywhere, or just on his head and shoulders? And if they are just on his head and shoulders, are they on the back of his head under his hair? Does he literally has eyes in the back of his head? Can his his eyes all look in separate directions or does he not have control over them?

  • Argos! New plant idea! (If you want to) Name:cloud flower This is a very fluffy flower! They aay if you touch it, you Will feel relaxed! It alsó has alot of storage! • Also, I went to every single void before I was even close to being born it was 100 years before I was born and every single day I went to a new void and there were so many so I mostly went to all of them. I’m still on my journey, but it’s fun we can meet each other sometime while I’m on one of my journeys

  • When I started perusal this… My brain went to “MAKE A FRICKIN JOURNAL WITH EVERYTHING ABOUT THE WORLD OF MR. PLANT IN IT” and since I have nothing to do this weekend and im frickin insane imma do it… Its gonna be called Gardening with Argos + the world of mr plant… I think I have officially gone insane… I need more sleep… But if I make an update then it means I am still working on it or done…

  • some funny moments (probably) 2:26 (the fearful flower: “*breathing*”)(Argos: “it’s just Mr Plant!”)(Argos(again): “you’re paranoid.”) 3:07 (the flower: “How is he doing?”)(Argos: “He’s dead.”)(the flower: “😦”) 3:17 (Argos: “…but being beautiful has a tough side.”)(Argos(again): “You have to keep a close eye on it…”)(argos turns off switch, then turns it on.)(Argos(3rd time): “…because they often get jealous and act on impulse…”)(stalker: instantly kills the beautiful plant.) 4:03 (Argos: “However, this flower isn’t for everyone…”)(Argos (again): “…and might drive someone insane.”)(the crybaby plant: c r y i n g)(Mr plant: kills flower)(Argos (3rd time): “…You got it to sleep!”) 5:51 (bing flower: “And you see my colors are the BRIGHTEST most BEAUTIFUL colors of any flower in the VOID.”)(bing flower(again): “Dont you think?”)(Argos: “Other flowers never want to talk to me because they’re so jealous.”)(bing flower(3rd time): “What do you think?” (Argos(again): “I don’t like you.”)(bing flower(4th time): “😧”) 6:19 (Argos: “And there you have it! Three- (bing flower joins in)I’m glad i’m here or else these two boring losers would’ve eaten up all the attention by themselves.”)(argos ban’s bing flower.) 6:55 (Argos: “Despite its terrifying appearance…”)(Argos(again): “…this flower loves classical music and fine art.”)(the fright flower: “🫤”)(Argos(3rd time): “Oh, whatever!”) 7:56 (Argos: “eventually every flower will know.”)(the taffy flower: “Argos’s flower is late and he’s going to smell a Mr plant.

  • I want a gardening with Argos episode that’s just a shitpost where Argos pulls out a marijuana plant and he’s like “This is a plant from (insert void number here), the plant was originally from another realm but now it grows here. Some say if you burn the flower, you can see visions! Why don’t we try it out?” And then he burns the fucking marijuana flower in a censer or something and gets really high.

  • How to deal with the plants. babbling flower: duct tape its mouth shut or say that you will do it The spore mushroom: do NOT breathe the spores in or it will cause insanity instead use two drops of holy water so it can repel The covetous flower: just say that it is pretty so it won’t get jealous The fearful plant: yes it is paranoid because it is not used to others

  • OK! if I wanted to have a lovely garden is need: 20 of the friendship flower void 67, 10 of the fearful flowers from void 42, 3 of the advice flower from void 137, the false flower from void 230, the imitation flower from void 14 (I assume they eat rodents, mole, and other pests?), a few mushrooms from void 17 (I’ll make a cockroach farm), some fright flowers from void 176, and 6 soulmate flowers from void 5. However…. If I want to create monster…. I’d cross-pollinate: the walking flower, the tendril flower from void 67, the copycat flower (they’re the most important flower!) from void 137, the portal flower from 2-30 for height, and the climbing ivy and vervainium attracta-flower from void 32. I’ll add more when you return from your adventures. I as a human can not explore it safely. May I ask, Mr. Argos, how are you organizing your garden?
